Recently Scott sent out a call for new contributors to this blog, and I answered. So for my first post, I figured it would be good to introduce who I am and why I have any authority on any of these subjects. (Spoiler alert: I don’t, but I have opinions. Lots and lots of meaningless opinions.)
I am Miranda Turner, and I’m a fairly new author, my first book having been published in December of 2018. I’ve been editing for almost four years now for several authors, mostly those in the LGBTQ+ community. I write primarily Urban Fantasy so far, but I have both a Sci-Fi book and a Thriller (Maybe, it’s turning more into a cop drama type book as I write.) slated to come out in the next year.
I live in a liberal pocket of a pretty conservative state, and I’m a single mom of eight kids and two cats. I also have eight chickens running around here because we like chaos. We name them and treat them like pets so we can all be traumatized when they are inevitably killed by some wild animal or another. The eight chickens we currently have are numbers twenty-six through thirty-four. There’s a lot of chicken murder going on here, and every time we find and arrest one culprit, sentencing them to death, a new one rises. It’s like mob wars. Their Don is a lot craftier than we are.
As far as what I bring to the table for this blog, I can guarantee snark because that’s who I am, and that’s about it. I like to think my perspective on things might be a bit unique because I work two different sides of this genre, so there’s that too. I love to read when I get time, so I may recommend books, and I will probably talk about both editing and writing subjects, along with issues specific to the LGBTQ+ community of writers and readers. I hope that you get something from reading my words, even if just laughter. We all could use more joy in our lives.
About the Author
Miranda Turner is a single mom of eight living outside a small, hippie town in the middle of Ohio. She’s surrounded by children, chickens, and one temperamental editor kitty who is silently judging her on a daily basis and a kitten who is determined to drive them all insane. She is a voracious reader and an editor who decided she had different stories to tell. She firmly believes a happily ever after is there for everyone, but she likes to make her characters earn it.
