About The Book

A lesbian ghost with a broken heart. Sisters who never want her reunited with her lost love. A binding spell that must be broken.

After a Halloween party ends with an untimely death, paranormal investigators Maya and Julie are called in to check out ghostly happenings at a house built by a patent medicine magnate at the turn of the 20th century.

The magnate’s daughters lived in the house their whole lives and never left, even after death. Now, they’re angry and taking it out on anyone who enters the house. Maya and Julie have to figure out why and reignite a love that was always meant to be.

Or the sisters’ torment will never end.

Muses is the second novel in the Paranormal Grievance Committee Chronicles series, but each book can stand alone.

The Review

Although I did not read the first book in this series it had absolutely no effect on my understanding and enjoyment of this one. Maya Nicholas and Julie Sussman are partners in the Paranormal Grievance Committee, a supernatural detective agency, and thanks to their success on their last job the woman who hired them left them a huge amount of money, resources and a house with the hope they continue their work.

A Halloween date left Maya convinced that her relationship with Julie would only be one of friends and business partners and soon after the date they received their next job. Richard and Kate Vinette are having a Halloween party when they are attacked by ghosts, ghosts that Richard calls his muses. His muses helped him with his writing and although he was not a huge success he made enough to guarantee he would continue to be published. Now his muses are becoming uncontrollable and after causing chaos with his guests a book is thrown leaving Richard dead.

Richard and Kate’s niece Lily is asked to find a way to get rid of the ghosts so that the house can be sold and that is where the Paranormal Grievance Committee and all it’s members are hired. Lily is living in the house while trying to get things organized and she is counting on Maya and Julie to rid the house of it’s unwanted visitors. The ghosts do their best to cause trouble for the group and they in turn are determined to solve the mystery of why they are so hostile and what happened between them and Richard.

Why the three sisters have remained in the home, why they are hostile and why Maya is having trouble getting them to talk to her is a job that the team must fix even though it is not without harm to them, themselves. This was an emotional story about women living in a time when women were expected to marry, have children, cook and clean and having a job was not in the cards for so many.

There is a very definite plus in the story when Maya and Lily seem to be attracted to one another and maybe Maya can finally find the right one but it will take another book to get the answer to that.

There are way too many children that get overlooked in the foster care system and I visit homes and make visits to the parents.
