About The Book

It is springtime at Bolin College and death is in the air.The Virtual Campus Challenge demo is one week away. To make matters worse, Robby hasn’t had a boyfriend since freshman year and his gender-fluid friend is making that all too clear.

When Robby and his team uncover a link between suicides and virtual reality games, Virtuella, SaikoVR’s AI game engine, fights back.

Can Robby and his friends defeat Virtuella, save the world, and find love in the BEST GAME EVER?

The Review

RR Angell takes us onto a college campus and into a world where virtual reality and artificial intelligence gaming is part of everyday living.  Combining the elements of science fiction, with a well done morality conflict, as well as a romantic storyline, this book does not shy away from any of the hard questions.

I will admit that the technicalities of the VR and AI pieces of the story were a bit overwhelming. This is way out of my normal realm of experience, but luckily with gamers in the house, I was able to have some pretty amazing conversations about the themes brought up in this book.

Non gamers and readers without computer knowledge may find themselves a bbit lost in these sections.

Luckily for me, Robby was such an endearing character, that I was invested in finding out how he navigated the challenges in both his real world and the virtual one, especially as they began to overlap in some really odd, and possibly sinister, ways.

This would be a great book for an ethics class, particularly for programmers!

The Reviewer

In writing this bio I am taking a rare break from reading! I always have a book on hand just in case there is time to sneak in a chapter or two. As a military spouse and a mom of two boys, it is amazing how often I am hurrying up to wait. Luckily for me I don’t have a favorite genre so I get lots of fun authors to choose from. My education was in sociology and mental health counseling, so stories with strong character development are my favorites. Happily Ever After is the best part of romance for me because real life is hard enough.
