About The Book
Bain never thought he’d escape the prison he’d lived in for the last five years. He spent his days chained up like an animal, and his nights…they were better not spoken about. Until one day Antonio came stumbling into his darkness, lighting a fire in his soul and giving him a chance at a new life.
Antonio loved his position as a Bellator, and he loved his brother Luc; it was Luc’s friends he could do without. When he came upon an emaciated and beaten boy at his brother’s best friend David’s house, he knew he had to get him out of there. Risking his place on his team, his relationship with his brother, and even death was something he’d never regret. After all, Bain was Antonio’s sodalis vitae, and soulmates were forever.
The small problem of Bain being a member of the Tenebrix, the Bellators’ mortal enemies, was nothing compared to what could happen if David found out where he was. But Antonio won’t let anything–race, being hunted by his own kind, or Bain’s fears–keep him from finally claiming his mate.
This novella is a standalone in The Bearer of Truth world and takes place three years before Shadowing the Light. Antonio and Bain do appear in The BoT series as side characters, but you do not need to have read those books to read this one or vice versa.

The Review
I am a big fan of The Bearer of Truth series and love the idea of getting the chance to read the stories of some of the characters.
Book one in this World Stories series focuses on Antonio and Bain, fated mates who meet by chance with one in need of rescuing from dire circumstances and them making a big sacrifice to have the chance to live together in peace.
As his mate, Antonio needs to rescue and care for the man, regardless of what he can get from the relationship or that he is supposed to be an enemy because of what he is. Just knowing that Bain is now safe is all he needs. Reading the two together, it’s clear that there is an intimate connection, even with physical touch being a barrier. One man being a Bellator and one a Tenebrix doesn’t stop them from developing a relationship but it is why Bain was captured and not safe from those who kept him. My heart absolutely broke for Bain and the world he has been stuck in for the last few years. Luckily for readers, we do not have any on page abuse but injuries and hints give you enough to figure out what he experienced. There’s a lot of pain to be felt for both characters but getting to read Bain’s recovery is clearly a gift to Antonio and we get to meet up with Gabriel a little while before Shadowing the Light and see the work he does to help others.
This is a much shorter book than the BoT series but I think it worked really well. Everything flowed well with focus on the important parts and skipping a week or month to the next. We meet a couple of important people that help the guys on their journey and several bad guys that are very easy to dislike. I enjoyed the story overall and getting to know these characters more than just the glimpses we get in book one and two.
This is a great addition to the BoT series and fits in well. Fans of the series will really love getting more from the universe and characters that Miranda has written. I’d say to read this after Shadowing the Light at least as you will know more of the world and main characters that are involved. A big recommendation for me!
The Reviewer
Hello all, my name is Xanthe and I am excited to be a reviewer for the PRG.
I read a lot, every night for at least 4-5 hours and I love to get lost in the world that an author has created. The best ones leave you wanting more and at a loss for words to describe just how good it is but I’ll try my best.
I live in a small town in South West England, just me and my dog Bonnie. I work part time in administration and really enjoy my job and the people I work with which I am very aware is not always the case!
I’ll read pretty much any sub genre within the mm genre. Since discovering it a few years ago, I rarely read anything else. One thing I won’t touch is horror, a definite no no for me!
Never ask me what my favourite anything is as I’ll have to give you a list of about ten or twenty things. How am I able to pick one food, book or film out of so many that I love?!
