About The Book

Will the truth bring them together, or tear them apart?

When a battered shifter rescued from a lifetime of trauma ends up as the top tiger’s mate, Declan is faced with possible war. With his nephew safe, and a new mate to secure, he should be focused on them. Instead he’s facing a challenge that will end up changing everything, or his death.

Sean grew up in a cage never dreaming of freedom, until the chance to save another brings him into the light. Now he’s met a man he can’t imagine living without. Only they both face a trial neither of them may survive. Can love give them the strength to win?

This is Book One in the series and while the MCs do receive their happy ending, there is an overall story arc which must be read in order to enjoy the story. Each book will feature its own main couple.

The Review

This is the first of a new series and is a really good book that I would have given a 4 star rating except for the initial sexual interaction between the two main characters. Sean is such a sympathetic character.  His past is horrific and the fact that he has kept any compassion is such a gift.  Declan is initially a character that seemed like a perfect safe place for Sean to find.  My following rating explanation contains spoilers.

There is a scene in the doctor’s office between Declan and Sean that is too close to rape for me.  Sean is an innocent that doesn’t even understand what sex is, and yet Declan is too overcome to put off having a basic conversation about it with him before taking him then and there.  I had a very difficult time reading further with any good feelings towards him after that point.  For that reason, I dropped the rating by a star.  If this is not an issue or trigger for a reader, then they may be able to more easily enjoy this book.

The premise is great and the writing is very compelling.  It is a testament to the quality of the writing that I finished the book.

3 stars.

The Reviewer

In writing this bio I am taking a rare break from reading! I always have a book on hand just in case there is time to sneak in a chapter or two. As a military spouse and a mom of two boys, it is amazing how often I am hurrying up to wait. Luckily for me I don’t have a favorite genre so I get lots of fun authors to choose from. My education was in sociology and mental health counseling, so stories with strong character development are my favorites. Happily Ever After is the best part of romance for me because real life is hard enough.
