About The Book
She needs an assassin.
They’re the best in the business.
Falling in love was never part of the deal.
Desperate to escape her abusive husband, Justine hires a contract killer. Campbell’s services come at a high price, and their dark, seductive charisma leads Justine right into their bed. Hiding an affair while Campbell designs the perfect murder has Justine walking a tightrope of stress, but each time the two of them sleep together, it’s harder not to get attached. Campbell struggles with their own traumatic past, convinced that the truth will drive Justine away.
There’s a faint hope that things could work, save for one problem: Justine’s husband wants her dead too.
Revenge is easy—heartbreak could cost both of them everything.
The Review
Justine Fortin has lived in an abusive marriage. She supported Richard while he pursued his dreams, while giving up her own dream of painting. The constant cheating with his young impressionable students has finally pushed Justine to make a very serious decision – to hire an assassin and once and for all get rid of Richard. She saves $50,000 – the cost of an assassin – and knows it will be the best use of the money she’d worked so hard to save.
Her meeting with Campbell is at a restaurant, where they eat dinner and appear like any other couple out for a date. Campbell asks for the money, and when received, they will know that she wants to go on with the assassination. They require information, keys and plan to prepare a way to make the killing appear to be an accident or suicide, all while keeping Justine safe from suspicion. It’s amazing to watch how Campbell goes about planning the perfect and least suspicious way of bringing about the death of Justine’s abusive husband.
In spite of the fact that Campbell is a hired killer, Justine can’t get them out of her mind. Her thoughts are not about fear but about sex. Campbell is a non-binary killer who has a painful past, and killing is second nature to them, but the fact that Justine shows no fear of them makes her very attractive to them. They are about to do something that is totally verboten for an assassin – getting involved with a client.
Knowing that Campbell is making plans for Richard’s death is no problem for Janice, but when she peeks into their computer and discovers that she was not the only one to hire them, and that Richard was paying for her death too, she finally begins to fear Campbell – whose contract will they honor?
I don’t want to give too much away, but I definitely was rooting for a HEA for Campbell and Janice and a painful goodbye for Richard. Plotting a murder, very explicit sex and two wonderful main characters kept me glued to this book. I can’t wait for book two – the author was kind enough to give a sneak peek of what is coming.
