About The Book

Do strangers want to join Aaron’s pack, or wipe it from the face of the earth?

Aaron, Alpha of Minneapolis West, is tired of other werewolves threatening his pack for harboring a gay wolf and his mate. Werewolves have more important things to worry about, with humans closing in on discovering them. But the arrival of two strange wolves on his doorstep, asking for sanctuary, pits compassion against safety. Can he let these two in and still keep his pack and his mate Zach safe? Or is that a risk he can’t afford to take?

(This is a lightly edited re-release of the 2013 novella 2.5, renumbered to 3)

The Review

This novella is something of an interlude in the Hidden Wolves series. Interesting, but not quite in the same league as the first two books. It keeps the story lines going and introduces at least one new significant character to the series.

The “unwanted appeal” is made by other packs wanting to off-load problems. The West pack alpha is wary about accepting another pack’s rejects, with good reason. He does not want his pack to become destabilised by difficult wolves no one else wants.

The story covers two such potential additions. One from an alpha who wants his wolf out of the clutches of his own mate. The other is a wolf dumped, beaten up, on the West pack’s doorstep.

The wolves in question are Cord and Jason, with Michael, Aaron’s cousin from his old pack making an important contribution again. Cord and Jason are in many ways secondary to the action this time around. Aaron and Zach are the important ones here. The story deals the lengths other packs will go to protect themselves from potential enemies and threats.

It’s a good read and allows for the development of subsidiary characters and aspects of the werewolf world. Short but worthwhile. Could be describing myself there. 😉

The Reviewer

Tony is an Englishman living amongst the Welsh and the Other Folk in the mountains of Wales. He lives with his partner of thirty-six years, four dogs, two ponies, various birds, and his bees. He is a retired lecturer and a writer of no renown but that doesn’t stop him enjoying what he used to think of as ‘sensible’ fantasy and sf. He’s surprised to find that if the story is well written and has likeable characters undergoing the trails of life, i.e. falling in love, falling out of love, having a bit of nooky (but not all the time), fending off foes, aliens and monsters, etc., he’ll be happy as a sandperson who has just offloaded a wagon of sand at the going market price. As long as there’s a story, he’s in. He aims to write fair and honest reviews. If he finds he is not the target reader he’ll move on.
