About The Book

As a bull shifter, Ryan has no idea what it is to be human. When he’s purchased and brought to the home of Caleb O’Connell, he’s determined to show the young man who’s boss. However, Caleb won’t cooperate, and instead of fearing Ryan, Caleb takes a liking to the new bull he soon dubs Whirlwind.

Caleb adores the feisty Whirlwind, convinced the bovine will be the best bucking bull in the Professional Bull Riding Circuit. Then one night his entire life changes when he learns Whirlwind’s secret—the secret of shapeshifters.

Ryan and Caleb become the best of friends, and Caleb attempts to teach Ryan, as best he can, how to be a human. Their time together leads to deeper feelings… and eventually they decide to give a relationship a chance. Unfortunately, Ryan is kidnapped, and Caleb has to call in the Agency—an organization that protects shifters—or their new life together will end before it ever starts.

Second Edition with updated and revised text.

The Review

Love is a Whirlwind is book two in the Shifter Chronicles, and concerns the relationship between Caleb and Ryan and the issues arising for a human in love with a shifter.

Caleb runs a bull riding company with his mother. He is in love with the winner of the Bucking Bull of the year competition. Not the rider, but the bull. Now that’s got to be uncomfortable on so many levels.

The bull, Whirlwind, is not your usual bull – he is a bull shifter with a difference. He shifts to a human, having been born to a cow sired by a bull shifter (a human who shifts to a bull).

Ryan is the human Whirlwind shifts to. He is a quite striking character with a bad temper but also a very loving side, which Caleb hopes to experience one day.

Things come to a head when Ryan beats up a guy who grabs hold of Caleb at a bar. When they both get back to their hotel room, they let their feelings for each other express themselves.

Just when Caleb thinks he has a future with Ryan, something happens to him. That something involves the Knights, and Caleb has a race on his hands to rescue Ryan. We get to meet the agents of the Agency again and find out a bit more about their operation.

The story progresses via a series of flashbacks, and reaches a very satisfying conclusion. Give it a read – you’ll enjoy it!

Tony is an Englishman living amongst the Welsh and the Other Folk in the mountains of Wales. He lives with his partner of thirty-six years, four dogs, two ponies, various birds, and his bees. He is a retired lecturer and a writer of no renown but that doesn’t stop him enjoying what he used to think of as ‘sensible’ fantasy and sf. He’s surprised to find that if the story is well written and has likeable characters undergoing the trails of life, i.e. falling in love, falling out of love, having a bit of nooky (but not all the time), fending off foes, aliens and monsters, etc., he’ll be happy as a sandperson who has just offloaded a wagon of sand at the going market price. As long as there’s a story, he’s in. He aims to write fair and honest reviews. If he finds he is not the target reader he’ll move on.
