About The Book

I just wanted to be a caring son. So why was I relying on gin and cake to keep the boredom at bay?

Peter Tudor was an adrenaline-fuelled emergency nurse, until he decided his duty lay in caring for his disabled mother in the dull seaside village where he grew up.

Out for an early morning run, Peter stumbles over the body of a hated village resident. The police say it’s an accident. Enigmatic stranger Lorne Stewart insists it’s murder, after a ‘message’ from the dead man.

The police aren’t keen to investigate, and neither is Peter. Then an attack on his home makes it personal.

There’s more to Lorne than meets the eye, and his magic is reeling Peter in …

The Review

Peter Tudor has returned to the small village of Abergwyn. He was an Accident and Emergency nurse (A&E), but made the change to rural district nurse. As an A&E, patients of all types came to him and he was kept busy.  His new job has him driving around the county and visiting his patients, a slower pace of life. He made the change to be closer to his Mum, Kay, who has MS.  Returning to what he feels is a boring life, he runs into his long time crush, Detective Adrian “Ade” Forest.

Lorne Stewart had gained a reputation when he first arrived in Abergwyn. The villagers didn’t like him much, and some still don’t. The animosity stemmed from the property that he inherited. But he’s liked by some because of the his baking and the sharing of his delicious baked goods. Rumor has it he may be psychic – he just seems to know things. He has what people refer to as a Gypsy horse by the name of Enzo, and Charlie the dog.

Trying to keep in shape and hoping to impress Ade, Peter spots someone lying on the beach. As he gets closer, he can tell something is seriously wrong.  With his experience in the medical field he tries to save the person, but it’s too late.

He recognizes the dead man, and calls for help. While he waits, a dog, a man and horse show up. The newcomer makes an odd statement to Peter about the dead man, and introduces himself as Lorne Stewart.

From then on, there are all kinds of odd and dangerous situations that occur, and Peter finds himself in the midst of it all!

Ripley Hayes delivers a good start to this new mystery series.  It’s very well written and a page-turner filled with danger, suspense and just a touch of the eerie. I liked Peter and Lorne – right away you can feel that they will slowly make a connection.

The secondary characters were all fun too. Peter’s Mum Kay isn’t totally helpless. She’s quite a surprise, and I like her connection with her special admirer, Dave. And don’t forget Enzo the horse and Charlie the dog.

I really enjoyed No Accident at Abergwyn. It has a lot of potential to turn into an intriguing mystery series. I’m excited to see what develops between Peter Tudor and Lorne Stewart!

Side note: This is different from the “Daniel Owen Welsh Mysteries” series that Ripley Hayes wrote previously.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California.  Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018.  My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen.  New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012.  She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series.  Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing.  I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews.  One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group.  Joining her site was such an eye opener.  I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
