About The Book
Eight nights to fall in love.
Ari’s mission: meet the man chosen for him by God. The catch: he only has eight nights to both fall in love and have his chosen fall in love with him—the eight nights of Chanukah.
Gabriel’s test of faith: in reaching out to a young man, he finds himself confronted with the unbelievable. Believe, and the Festival of Lights may herald a miracle leading to a lifetime of love.
The Review
Ari is an angel, created by God, to be a warrior fighting demons. It’s the only life he knows, and Heaven has always been his home, but things are about to change. God has informed Ari that it is time to claim his other half. He only has eight days, until the end of Chanukah, or he will return to Heaven and must wait another year before trying again.
Ari is sent to Earth in the form of a human male, knowing nothing about the world around him or who his other half is. He arrives at a club with eight earrings and wearing a T-shirt that reads Satan’s Thorn. He’s quite lost until a man – Gabriel – comes up to him asking if he needs help. Ari knows instantly that this is the man God chose for him, and he has eight days to get him to fall in love with him.
Gabriel is a good guy – he founded Young Heroes, an after-school hangout for youth in Atlantic City, trying to improve their lives.
Gabriel is attracted to Ari and wants to help him, but Ari runs away – his first day is not very successful. Gabriel can’t understand what he said or did that made Ari run, but he hopes they meet again.
His first day gone, Ari only has seven more to win the love of his Chosen. Unfortunately, he knows nothing about the world, and even though some of his brother angels try to help, he realizes that he has so much to learn.
Gabriel returns to the club, and Ari is there waiting for him. Gabriel invites Ari for coffee, another thing that Ari knows nothing about, since he never had to eat while in Heaven. Gabriel introduces him to hot chocolate with whipped cream – it’s a big hit. As Gabriel and Ari spend some time together, Ari wants to reveal who he really, but is worried Gabriel will think he is crazy.
Gabriel begins referring to Ari as his little lion, and as weird as Ari’s story is, Gabriel slowly begins to believe it.
Ari’s first kiss was like being struck by lightning, and he is very anxious to learn more about sex. Gabriel realizes that Ari is a virgin, but Ari doesn’t understand what that means, because to him a virgin is a woman who hasn’t had children, like the Virgin Mary. He is so cute as he learns more about sex, but that’s just the beginning. Gabriel is more than happy to teach Ari, but is still unsure if he loves him.
And of course, demons appear, so Ari and the other angels get to fight, and Gabriel gets his first look at his little lion in action.
There are quite a few Hebrew words, some I knew and some of which I was happy to learn.
This is such a beautiful Chanukah story – my first – and I loved every minute of it. An angel finding his other half and becoming human, and how the love he feels for Gabriel overrides everything. How can a Chanukah story end with anything but an HEA?
Five stars.
