About The Book

When Adam, a middle school teacher, meets Jeremy, a musician, sparks fly, and the feeling is definitely mutual. What Adam soon learns, however, is that Jeremy is part of a package deal. He is bound psychically to his twin brother, Jono, who died when they were sixteen.

As Adam and Jeremy get closer, where does that leave Jono? And when Jono makes a request to Adam—“Please convince Jeremy to let me go”—will Adam have the courage to do it, even knowing how much it would hurt Jeremy to say goodbye?

When tragedy strikes, will Adam and Jeremy come together, or will they be torn apart by the strange arrangement they find themselves in? Can love survive amidst the chaos of the afterlife? The Soul Cages is a standalone queer paranormal romance novella.

The Review

Jeremy Asher lives in an older house that he inherited from his grandparents. He’s very ambitious in the musical arena, and is about to perform at Dominics Tap House. He plays guitar and sings, and has a nice little career going, but he’s not a big star. He has gigs at different bars, but he does so much more – he gives guitar and piano lessons, does voiceovers, writes songs and narrates audio books. During his evening at Dominics leads, he spies a “glasses” guy in the audience, and they trade glances. Those memorizing stares cause Jeremy to stumble through a song, which he never does.

Jonathan Asher, better known as Jono, is Jeremy’s sixteen year old brother. They have a special connection, and Jono is always by Jeremy’s side.  They share so much of their personal lives.

Adam Wainwright can’t help but stare at Jeremy during his performance. But who would want to be involved with a nerd like him? Adam is a teacher at Marshall Middle School. He’s also writing a novel, and hopes to one day get published. He lives with his roommate and friend, Nicole.

After Jeremy’s performance, Adam takes a chance and approaches him. They hit it off, and make plans to see each other again. Jeremy is taking a big chance, because of his special relationship he has with Jono.

What will Adam do when he finds out about Jono?  How will Jeremy react when Adam tries to explain Jono’s plight?  When Adam’s life goes from joy to tragedy, will Jeremy be able to make the right decisions?

Soul Cages is a paranormal novella filled with charm and moments of drama. It’s an emotional story, and those emotions change at a furious pace.

The relationship that grows between Jeremy and Adam is sweet and steamy, but they have their struggles, especially where Jono is concerned.

It’s the first time I’ve tried something by Chad Grayson. It’s an easy read, a story of indecision, with two types of love, one for a brother and one for a lover. I highly recommend Soul Cages, a gay romance tale with a touch of the paranormal. Nicely done.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
