About The Book
Robert Montagnet and Dan Cooper are a nice gay couple who live in a nice waterfront condo in a nice, touristy part of Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
At least, that’s who they’re pretending to be.
After five months on the lam, Dr. Crane is strained to the point of breaking—he just wants it to be over. But, with his mental and physical health in decline, living where he doesn’t speak the language and relying on his partner for everything, he feels trapped.
Just the way Max likes it, of course.
When Crane is presented with an opportunity to clear his name once and for all, he’s compelled to take it… But, it means betraying the young man who thoroughly intoxicates him in ways he had never imagined possible.
Can Crane break his addiction or is he too far down the rabbit hole to escape?
The Review
Maybe, just maybe, Dennis Crane was better off being in prison where Max couldn’t get near him. How wrong is that? Of course, Max is up to his old tricks and has it all planned out. Dennis is now out of jail and on his way to Mexico with his former patient.
Of course, Max has everything under control. But Dennis is still fearful that the police will find him and then what? When Max keeps him filled with drugs and Dennis’ physical and mental health state are fractured even more, he has to make a decision. He can’t deal with the lies, drugs, the stress and illness and co-dependance that Max has dealt him.
Crane decides he’s ready to turn his back on max once and for all and turn himself in. When Max feels like he’s being double-crossed, he tries to manipulate Crane to get him to stay. But
Both Max and Crane are lost in a strange, mutual addiction. No matter what the deception is, is there a way out for them both? And who will take it?
Bey Deckard brings Max back in Max, The Sequel and it’s even darker from the first book. This novel is not for everyone, as it goes deep into darkness, depravity, the study of evil, manipulation, drugs, erotica, sexuality, addictions and co-dependency.
It took me a while to decide what to write in my review, but I didn’t want to reveal too much. Suffice it to say, you just have to read it, if you have the courage. It will definitely disturb your own emotions and drive you a little crazy!
My only disappointment was there isn’t an audio for this one yet – I hope one is in the works.
I highly recommend both Max and Max The Sequel” for those who like their romance dark and twisted. It’s an excellent work.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.
I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.
My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!
As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.
My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.
I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.
But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
