About The Book

Dax

I’ve cut and run on my life more than once in my thirty-one years, leaving everything behind, even my name. Now I’m Dax Crow, long lost half-brother and mixing technician for Jameson Crow, the lead singer of Corvus Rising. I’m using my hard-won skills to help my brother make it big. The rest of the band are incidental to me, although new bass player Lane Bennett is a hot mess of young talent who urgently needs someone to take him under their wing. Not my job. I never get close to anyone. Until some douche of a boyfriend begins jerking the kid around, and I’ve been there, done that. Maybe I can at least give him some advice.

Lane

Playing with Corvus Rising is my dream come true, and I can’t believe in October we’ll play for sixty thousand fans at Rocktoberfest. I just hope I can measure up. The last six months have been a steep learning curve, but I have my secret boyfriend to encourage and direct me whenever he’s around. I wish we could go public, but he’s with the record label and it wouldn’t look good. I also have my secret joy— performing drag as Ms. Fox, when I get the chance. It’s hard juggling everything while touring with the band, but I think I have it under control. Then my worlds collide and my boyfriend shows his true face. I find myself getting surprising advice and support from Dax, the gorgeous, secretive guy behind Corvus’s sound. But I doubt even Dax can turn this disaster into a triumph.

The Review

This is the story of the band Corvus Rising and two of their members, whose lives will be changed forever.

Dax Crow is Jamie’s half-brother – the lead singer of the band – and it was at their father’s funeral that Dax finally revealed who he was. Jamie hired Dax as the band’s mixing tech, and he became very dedicated to Jamie, always making sure that nothing would hurt him or the band. But as much as he cares for his brother, he has secrets that he’s shared with no one, secrets that made him a loner.

When he was sixteen, Dax’s mom died, leaving him on the streets with only one way to earn money – to sell himself. For years, he did what he had to do to survive, until he found himself a plaything for a rich man who didn’t just settle for sex. He wanted to own Dax, and did not hesitate to use threats to get what he wanted. The only way Dax could get free was to run and change his appearance – dye his hair and wear colored contacts – and stay far away from his emotional abuser.

When Lane Bennett is hired as the bassist for the band, Dax begins to suspect he’s a man who needs to be controlled, but control that’s not abusive and threatening. Lane can’t get away from Richard, who at first showed a different side till he felt Lane was under his control. When Lane finally decided he wanted out he was blackmailed – Richard knew he did drag, and if the label found out, he would be out of the band. Richard’s father owns the label the band was signed to.

When Dax realizes what is going on with Lane and who is holding his chains, he reaches out to help his bandmate. Dax has been there done that, and doesn’t want anyone else to suffer what he did. When attending a drag show, Dax is shocked to see that Ms. Fox, a sexy drag queen who sings like an angel, is none other than Lane.

Dax never mentions that he saw him, until Lane gets stuck in the staircase of their hotel holding a tiny little dog while dressed in drag. Unable to get access to his floor and unable to walk down the seventeen floors he walked up, he called the only person he thought would help, and that was Dax.

Princess, a five-pound dog that Lane rescued from a shelter, becomes the medicine both men needed. Dax, who didn’t used to care about anyone other than his brother, falls in love with this little five-pound bundle of joy, at the same time he is falling for Lane.

A wonderful addition to the multi-author series “Road to Rocktoberfest 2023.” Five stars.
