The Review
I had loved Blake Allwood’s Rocktoberfest 2022 story, so I was happy when he continued this year with his 2023 story. Also coincidentally, I live in Gilbert AZ, right next door to Mesa Az., where a bunch of this story is crafted!
Another co-inky-dink, was the day before I started reading this book I had taken my two two teenage grand children to our favorite antiquing place in Chandler, Az. while they had two week off Winter Break from school. My grandson is 16 has a band, plays bass guitar and with his step dad and me has a real feel for Old Rock. Hence Merchant Square Antiques.
Isles of clothing and old albums, Doors, Beatles, Hendrix, Guns and Roses etc. memorabilia abound. A gentleman looking like an old rocker was there flipping thru the albums ; we looked at each other and smiled with him hearing us talking abut the Beatles shirt to buy. I shrugged and said my grandson has band, he plays bass. He looked at me and said “Grandma you did good”….Kid he said to my grandson “Follow The Music”!!
Blake Allwood took that thought and ran with it and immersed me into the most fabulous, well written book I have read in a long time.
Ted and August both had family ties in Mesa AZ. both of them their Grandpa’s. August had lost on a National TV Show’s talent contest. He was in the top two when his ‘boyfriend’ and bandmate left him high and dry just before he had to go on stage and perform in the final. Needless to say he performed well but not his best. Feeing like a total loser, he came back home and of course loving music. worked the circuit singing weddings and nursing homes.
Ted works with an amazing Rock Band and comes to Arizona to rest and visit his Gramps on his brake after a tour. Fate strikes as these two meet and sizzle.
There is so much to this story, the falling in love, the sharing of pasts, the side characters, the respect of these two men for each other. You have to read for yourself the web this author has spun. Mr. Allwood is one of those authors who writes stories, wonderful stories of love, family, home and hearth, respect, and down home values within. He does not shirk his responsibility, writing wonderful love stories with or without explicit sex. More Than October has all the feels I mentioned and more. I could not put it down – it’s a must-read.
And as the ‘Ole Rocker’ we met at the antique store reminded us, ‘Follow The Music’!
5 Stars.
