About The Book
Daniel Owen has spent the best part of ten years renovating his house when he finds the cellar. By falling into it.
The mysterious cellar has a mysterious door, and behind the mysterious door is a mysterious box … and in the box … there are clues to the shocking history of Daniel’s beloved home town.
A cold case is occupying Mal Kent’s time. A notorious car thief is released from prison. Town and police station gossip says the thief killed an old man years ago, and the minute he gets out, there’s another death.
But Mal has other problems, problems that threaten his future as a police officer and his future with Daniel.
If that wasn’t enough, the wedding is six weeks away.
The Review
Maldwyn Kent has all kinds of issues as the Chief Superintendent of the Melin Tywyll Police Station. Short of staff, the Royal Visit, no funding, a possible promotion, and dealing with Asst. Commissioner, Crime, Jack Bowen. But Mal has an idea to keep the Melin Tywyll PS open. Then there are his domestic issues: renovation of the old cottage, Daniel studying to be an educator, animals to care for, what it would mean if he got promoted, his family issues, and an upcoming wedding. Is it just the ever-mounting stress of the job that plagues Mal?
Daniel Owen is looking to start a new career in teaching. He’s also spending time finishing up renovations on his cottage. Melin Tywyll is his home, and he hopes he never has to leave. There are other issues that are bothering Daniel too, as he watches Mal go through changes.
All of these issues have Daniel and Mal soul searching, reflecting on their pasts and all of the misunderstandings along the way. Will they have a future to look forward too?
But everything comes to a halt when the parole board makes a very bad decision to release Wesley Farrage. A flurry of issues – the search for Farrange, a mysterious book, slavery and murder – has Mal doing everything he can to keep up. Daniel finds himself getting more deeply involved too, but he’ll have the help of Detective Inspector Bethan Davies, Abby Price, PC Baker, and Hector Powell. Together they get caught up in a twisted, dangerous mystery.
Interwoven is an outstanding continuation of the “Daniel Owen Welsh Mysteries,” filled with heartbreak, danger, lasting friendships, and love. Hayes did an expert job conveying the complex investigation at the heart of this story.
This is also heartrending tear-jerker of a tale, especially with all the struggles Mal goes through, worried that Daniel might leave him, especially in a time of great need. And Daniel, in a way, neglects himself because of his great concern over Mal.
I loved that Peter Tudor and Lorne Stewart from the “Tudor and Stewart Cosy Mystery” series, got a cameo here. Lorne brings just a touch of his own magic to this book.
I highly recommend “Interwoven” it’s a riveting thriller that pulls at your heart strings, but manages to still convey and hope for a future. This is supposed to be the last book in the series, but never say never. Maybe Ripley Hayes will surprise me.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.
I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.
My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!
As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.
My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.
I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.
But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
