About The Book

Reunited with his husband, Talin, Jon spends a few blissful days reconnecting with him.

Their reunion is short lived as there is trouble on the border of Daranii space that must be
investigated without delay.

An old enemy is waiting, and has already struck against the heart of Daran.

The loss that ensues wreaks havoc, calling long held beliefs into question, and putting Talin in
jeopardy.

Can Jon help Daran change their beliefs, or will Talin be the sacrifice given for their grief?

Will the price of victory be more than their relationship can bear?

The Review

After three months of separation, Jon is finally coming back to Daran. His parents are visiting after the plague on Earth, and Jon has done his best to help the President of the United States, but now it’s finally time to go home.

Jon knows that the stay will be short-lived, since he and Talin will be leaving for a fact-finding mission to the colonies. An enemy has been attacking, leaving destruction in their wake, and Talin is charged with finding out who the enemy is and destroying them. Those colonies which are peaceful and have no weapons have been spared, but the warrior facility was destroyed, and half the warriors lay dead.

The identity of enemy is finally discovered, one they first met two centuries before – the Strakaan. Daran won that first battle, and then forgot about them, but the Strakaan never forgot and upgraded on their weapons. This time, when Talin orders the Strakaan ships destroyed, they prove their strength. For the first time in their history, Daran loses a battl,e leaving one ship destroyed.

Talin is punished for the loss, but not as severely as he could have been – he’s spared from death. It becomes Talin’s job to visit all the families of the dead, a heartbreaking situation, but one which accepts.

Jon wakes up the Daranii to the fact that they are vulnerable because of their belief in their own invincibility. Jon would have tried to contact the enemy ship instead of attacking. Now Daran is willing to follow Jon’s approach when they once again face the enemy.

Talin and Jon’s love and bond grow stronger, despite the obstacles thrown in their path, the biggest being war.

This is a must-read series. If you are not familiar with it, I highly recommend beginning with the first series – Darantii Justice – and the start of of Jon and Talin’s relationship. It’s quite a story. Five stars.
