About The Book
Jenna and Randi can’t wait to wed—if murder doesn’t get in the way. Book 10 in the popular Lessons in Murder series, by award-winning, best-selling author Edale Lane.
On a lovely spring day, Jenna enjoys a walk in the park with her fiancée, Randi, and their dog when she’s called to investigate a fatal car crash. More than suspicious, the circumstances point to murder—a case the lieutenant detective has a week to solve before she and Randi’s marriage and honeymoon.
As if Jenna’s emotions weren’t already overwhelmed enough, wondering if her parents would attend, she now has the added stress of discovering her victims were a newlywed couple. It will take all of Randi’s empathic skills to hold Jenna together as she dives deep into the investigation, reawakening old demons and fears.
While the list of suspects in the case grows, Jenna puzzles over a clue that doesn’t seem to fit any of them. All the while, her wedding day creeps nearer. Can Jenna solve the murder in time, or will an unknown killer in the wind cast a harrowing shadow over the happiest day of her life?
The Review
It’s a Saturday for Lt. Dt. Jenna Ferrari, and she’s preparing herself for the big event, just one week away. Her nerves are on edge as she prepares to take the big step with Prof. Miranda “Randi” Macleod. There are the parties, a shower, the rehearsal, the wedding, and a surprise honeymoon, but all of that will have to wait.
Jenna has been called in by Captain Jerome Meyers for an accident that becomes a crime scene. When she gets to the scene, she immediately checks everything out. The very sharp and observant Officer Matt Murphy is on top of all the vital details, and has found something that she really needs to see. Even with the top notch Roanoke PD behind her, the investigation doesn’t get easier. The investigation of the murder of an inter-racial couple and their dog will cross state lines, governmental agencies, and will include many suspicious characters. It’s time for the Roanoke PD to step-up with their expertise.
Trying to keep her mind on the case is difficult, with the thoughts of her and Randi’s upcoming wedding occupying her thoughts. Renita, Jenna’s mother, makes it more difficult as religious beliefs leave Jenna feeling angry and rejected. Randi is always there for Jenna and gives her full support, as she always does, to get Jenna through the difficult time. Nothing should be allowed to stand in their way to happiness.
Jenna is persistent, and with her team, she strives to get the difficult investigation wrapped up before the big day.
Lane’s Matrimony in Murder is another mystery based on a true incident. As always, the crimes and investigations are complex and filled with suspense. Jenna Ferrari is observant when it comes to her team, and she always compliments them. This investigation has classy Detective Trisha Jamison showing off her expertise. And Officer Matt Murphy shows how much he has grown when it comes to investigations.
Even though Jenna and Randi struggle with their own issues and feelings, their love and support for one-another never fail, and their pets Byron and Bandit lighten up their days. And there’s a big surprise to come.
I highly recommend Matrimony in Murder. I can’t believe that we’re already at book ten in the “Lessons in Murder” series. Lane never fails to make her novels entertaining, exciting, dangerous, suspenseful, and filled with investigative expertise, and also emphasizes friendships, emotions, humor, romance and lots of love.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.
I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.
My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!
As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.
My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.
I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.
But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
