About The Book
Two shattered hearts, one small town, and a love they never expected to find again.
Taran
Losing Royce shattered me. My husband, my best friend, gone too soon because I missed the signs—missed how deep his pain went. Now it’s just me and twelve-year-old Rory, my son, my heart, and I’m doing everything I can to give him the life he deserves. But no matter how many shifts I work, it never feels like enough. Getting denied the loan to start my own bakery? It’s just another blow. I wanted to create something stable for my son, a future for us. But that dream’s slipping through my fingers. Then Royce’s best friend Wynter walks back into my life looking every bit as lost as I feel. He disappeared shortly after the funeral. I should be furious with him, but every time he’s near, I feel things I haven’t felt in years.
Wynter
My return to Aspen Ridge was supposed to be a fresh start after a hard-earned military retirement, but instead, I found my wife pregnant with another man’s child, leaving me with a broken heart and a future I never anticipated. Now, everything I used to know about my life is gone. And here I am, standing in front of Royce’s husband again. The man I swore to look out for, and yet I failed him too. Life has dealt hit after hit to Taran. He’s strong, but I can see the cracks forming. As the snow falls and Christmas draws near, something between us is starting to thaw. It’s terrifying, but maybe we can heal each other’s wounds. Because second chances don’t come around often. And in this small town, maybe we’ll find the love we never thought we’d have again.
Wynter’s Second Chance is a heartfelt, emotional holiday romance set in a small town where love unexpectedly finds its way back into the lives of two men. With the touching tropes of single dad, biawakening, hurt/comfort, and a second chance at love, this story is a journey of rekindling hope, love, and healing.
The Review
Wynter’s Second Chance is the story of how two best friends overcome their grief and issues, and open themselves up to love again. The language can be quite lush at times, and the emotions a bit overpowering but I was cheering them along as they slowly realized what they feel for each other.
Taran is a widower bringing up his adopted son Rory on his own, after the death of his husband, Royce. His life is turned upside down when Wynter returns home after retiring from the armed forces. Wynter is a good friend – a best friend of Royce’s since childhood. When Royce died, it put a lot of strain on them both. Five years have passed, and Taran and Wynter face different issues now. As they support each other, their feelings for one other begin to crystallise.
They get their happy ever after as they build a life together with their now son Rory.
All three characters are well developed. This is an intense emotional read and is well written, as the characters deal with some serious issues before everything can come out right.
The Reviewer
Tony is an Englishman living amongst the Welsh and the Other Folk in the mountains of Wales. He lives with his partner of thirty-six years, four dogs, two ponies, various birds, and his bees. He is a retired lecturer and a writer of no renown but that doesn’t stop him enjoying what he used to think of as ‘sensible’ fantasy and sf. He’s surprised to find that if the story is well written and has likeable characters undergoing the trails of life, i.e. falling in love, falling out of love, having a bit of nooky (but not all the time), fending off foes, aliens and monsters, etc., he’ll be happy as a sandperson who has just offloaded a wagon of sand at the going market price. As long as there’s a story, he’s in. He aims to write fair and honest reviews. If he finds he is not the target reader he’ll move on.
