About The Book
Werewolves are apex predators. So why does she feel like prey?
Territory, honor, the trust of her peers – Jordan Abbey has earned none of these from the supernatural residents of Rancho Robles. The werewolves shun Jordan as a creature without honor for siding with the vampires. The vampires dismiss Jordan as an unruly pet who needs to be kept on a much shorter leash. Chased out of the wilderness and not allowed to shift within the city, she is without any place for her inner wolf to run free.
Someone is killing the servants of vampires. Soon vampires themselves fall victim. Each attack is linked directly to Jordan, fueling rumors that she is working to undermine the vampires’ grip on the city. The werewolves dog her steps, harassing her whenever and wherever they can.
Then, in the heart of vampire territory, the corpse of a werewolf who bullied Jordan is discovered. The children of the Wolf and the Bat are ready to go to war, and Jordan is caught squarely in the crossfire. Can one woman prevent the annihilation of the only place she calls home?
The Review
Jordan Abbey is also known as the chaos wolf. She’s been trying her best to fit in, even though she chose to stay with a vampire – Patron Montgomery. Being a werewolf, as Montgomery tells her, she needs to prove that she can make a kill and provide for herself and the pack. Jordan has made her choice not to join the Black Oak Pack, but it’s still necessary to learn the wolves’ ways.
Alpha Shane and his daughter Angela are out for revenge. They ambush Jordan, and tell her she can no longer use the designated area that she was told by Talespeaker Diana was neutral for werewolves to hunt in. As the wolves make it harder for Jordan, there’s another issue. Vampires are being slaughtered, and it seems to be wolves’ work. Jordan is once again put in the middle of things, as head vampire Elder Marcus thinks she can identify who is doing the killing.
Of course, that leads to Alpha Shane blaming her for the killings. She is caught between vampires who don’t like her and the wolves that continue to shun and humiliate her. She’s even tracked down at the local supermarket when Angela comes to accuse her of trespassing, but then an unknown assailant turns the tables on them.
Jordan is also dealing with her once friend and roommate Mollly, who is now famulus to Elder Marcus. As much as Jordan wants to explain to Molly what happened, she can’t ever find the right time. Plus, Molly is acting strange, and something’s not right about the situation. She also discovered some strange things when she sought the advice of a former Professor, Elias Campbell, and she witnesses an argument between Thorn and Montgomery that splits them apart, leaving the reader to wonder if Thorn can really be trusted.
Then a werewolf is killed, and the pelt is sent to Alpha Shane with its claws removed, a clear sign of hunters in the area. Can The Black Oak Pack and the Conclave put a halt to their feud long enough to find a way to come together to deal with hunters? The vampires and werewolves are an unhappy bunch, and no matter what happens, they are all eager to get rid of Jordan Abbey.
Hayes sticks to the fast pace of the first novel, Chaos Wolf, in a story packed with excitement, lies, secrets, violence, and more surprises that will keep Jordan Abbey running on all four paws. And she’s always the one to get blamed.
Chaos Hunt is a fast page turner that brings new craziness into Jordan Abbeys world. Hayes surprises and mesmerizes readers with all the trials and troubles that keep Jordan Abbey on her toes.
Up next: Chaos Unleashed, book 2.5.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.
I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.
My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!
As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.
My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.
I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.
But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
