About The Book

How far would a werewolf go to help a friend?

Werewolves and dogs don’t usually get along, but Jordan Abbey has formed a bond with her elderly neighbor’s Rottweiler. So when Rex goes missing during a dog-walking mishap, she’s determined to return him home. With her abilities, finding him should be easy. Except there is one problem. The vampire lord of the city has declared she’s not allowed to shape-shift within the city limits of Rancho Robles.

Better to ask forgiveness than permission, or so Jordan thinks. But there is another issue she has to face – Animal Control. Rumors are getting around about wolf-like dogs wandering the city, and they respond quickly to panicky stray dog calls. Jordan knows how to be discreet, or so she believes.

Will Jordan be able to find her friend without sacrificing her freedom?

The Review

As things have settled down, Jordan Abbey, the chaos wolf, has finally made progress with Rex. Rex was Mrs. Clarke’s very protective Rottweiler, and was hostile to Jordan in the beginning. Things have slowly changed for the better.

One day, when she visits Mrs. Clarke’s apartment to take Rex on his walk, she discovers that Rex is missing. It seems unlikely – even if he got out of the apartment, all the tenants in the building know him. It turns out that Mrs. Clarke was feeling guilty about Jordan having to walk Rex twice a day, so she hired a dog walker, which didn’t work out so well when Rex slipped his collar and ran off.

Seeing how upset Mrs. Clarke is. Jordan starts to think how much easier it would be for her to find Rex in wolf form. But she has been warned to be careful by her Patron, Montgomery. She also has to avoid at all costs the wrath of Elder Marcus, Leader of the Rancho Robles Conclave and Montgomery’s sire, and Alpha Shane of The Black Oak Pack, which she declined to join.

When she returns to Montgomery’s apartment, she explains to Thorn and Montgomery what happened, and how she could track Rex down, if she is allowed to shift to wolf. It’s against the rules to shift within the city limits of Rancho Robles, and if found out she would have to answer to Marcus and Shane. So she decides to wait until the early hours of dawn, while Montgomery and Thorn are asleep, to take action.

As she tracks Rex’s scent, it leads her to a public bathroom at the park, where she can remove her cloths and shift. She follows it to a suburban development and finally to a playground, where he’s more than happy to see her. Unfortunately, Rex isn’t the only one there – a small boy and his mother spot her.

Animal Control finds her and Rex and they are hauled off to the animal shelter.  What has she gotten herself into? And how will she get out of this mess?

Hayes has penned a short, fun novella in Chaos Unleashed. It’s a nice reprieve from all the drama of the first two novels, Chaos Wolf and Chaos Hunt.  Jordan finds that, just maybe, she has found some allies in the younger werewolves of The Black Oak Pack. Amd the most unlikely person may have to rescue her.

Plus, she will have to answer to Montgomery, and he answers to Elder Marcus – that’s a whole ‘nother bunch of drama waiting to happen.

Chaos Unleashed is entertaining, enjoyable, and has a few surprises up its sleeve, combined with just a touch of drama, showcasing an unexpected side of Jordan Abbey.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
