About The Book
Moments have passed for Reylan since he crossed the barrier between worlds to rescue his werewolf lover, Jorgas. But on their return, nothing feels right. Faithful allies have vanished, and places that once offered solace are now derelict, filled with shadows and inhabited by evil.
How can Reylan find his friends, and who can be trusted once they’re found?
The world Reylan and Jorgas returned to has destroyed the one they left behind. In this new reality, someone is playing a deadly game with time, and their fates are its prize.
The Review
This is the fourth book in the series, and the only one I have read. I know I’ve missed a lot – I was a little lost at first – but I decided to concentrate on this book and read the descriptions and reviews of the other books, so I had an idea of what went on previously.
Reylan returns with Jorgas from the Wound a hell dimension. When Reylan visits the Arcadia Trust, it’s empty and in chaos. He finds his mannequin Brett starved and in horrendous condition. Reylan believes he was only gone twenty minutes, but it was actually five months. He left Iain dead, and without his help, Reylan and Jorgas would never have gotten free.
It doesn’t take Reylan long before he realizes that Brett is not himself – Iain has occupied Brett’s body. Iain’s own body is still in the Wound. Iain explains that after five months, Brett had gone insane and if Iain left his body, he would become a crazed monster.
Looking for his friends, Reylan visits Isobel’s house, only to find her gone and a horror show left in her place. The house is now occupied by something evil. He hides behind a sarcophagus and witnesses Deborah and another person performing a gory human sacrifice. Afterwards, Reylan manages to get out alive.
Things get very bad very quickly: another visit to the Arcadia Trust, and he finds Patricia and her trusted aide Kelvin, only Kelvin is now visible. Kelvin is a cloak walker – always invisible – he is another victim of whatever is possesses the Arcadia Trust building. The only hope is to find and destroy the evil.
Despite not having read the first three books, I found myself really invested in this book. There are surprises, secrets, betrayal and violence, and it held my interest from the beginning to the end.
Still, I definitely missed out on a lot – I can’t recommend highly enough to begin with the first book in this series.
Five stars.
