About The Book

A werewolf pack reels from the loss of five members, including the Alpha and Beta, at the teeth and claws of Canadian werewolves. Summoned by a frantic call from a young werewolf who survived the massacre, Anax Tobias Rogan, the highest-ranked wolf in the United States, heads to North Dakota.

Tobias is able to stabilize the pack, but his trip takes a toll on his relationship with his mate, Kyle Slidell. When the Canadian Anax, Silas Creighton, requests a meeting, Tobias seizes the opportunity for a trip with Kyle to restore their connection.

With an international conflict to resolve and a traumatized young werewolf in tow, Tobias and Kyle struggle to find time for each other. And then assassins try to take Tobias’s life…

This book includes discussions of past sexual assault and physical child abuse, homophobia including a French Canadian homophobic slur, a child character living with cancer, and depictions of grief and mourning.

The Review

Things between Kyle and Tobias are strained, and become moreso when Tobias receives a phone call from a young wolf named Quinn, advising him of the death of the Alpha, Beta and three other pack mates. They were attacked by another pack while in neutral territory between the United States and Canada. As the Anax and the leader of all the werewolves in America, Tobias must go to investigate what happened, and how to prevent it from causing a war between the two countries.

The Prairie Pack in North Dakota was attacked by the Boundary Pack in Canada, leaving the Prairie pack without any leadership. Kyle is not going with Tobias, and he won’t promise to be there when Tobias returns. He’s has been through a lot in a short time, being attacked and changed, moving to Pennsylvania when Tobias became the new Arkhon, and then as the new Anax in California. In California, he finds himself without friends and hostility by some of the staff.

When Tobias arrives at the Prairie Pack, he meets the caller, Quinn, who witnessed the attack and lost the man whom he lived with and loved. A call to the Canadian Anax to report what happened meets with approval for a meeting between the two men to make peace.

The meeting will to be held in Nova Scotia, but first Tobias must find Kyle and try to make up for the weeks when he was too busy with his job as Anax. He decides that Kyle would go to Boston where he had many friends, so that’s where Tobias headed, with Quinn accompanying him as his guard.

Finally, Tobias and Kyle are reunited, and things get back to normal.

This is a wonderful series about mates Tobias and Kyle, and having to learn to deal with the dangers and problems that face a leader daily. There are those who want Tobias dead, both in Canada and in the United States. It’s something he faces daily, and it happens again on his way to Nova Scotia.

Great characters, explicit sex, danger, betrayal, surprises and secrets make this series a must-read.

Five stars.
