Wannabe singer and band frontman Erik Von Nordgren hates snarky brit Asher Berkley with a passion. From the moment he turns up at practice with his twin sister Daisy, who is one of the band the two have hated each other.
Through a series of 'tit for tat' incidents they annoy, frustrate and exasperated each other. The die-hard goth with purple eyes and the hardcore rocker with dreams of the big time have nothing in common and no need to cross paths. Except to wind each other up.
Until the day that Erik throws Asher in the school pool when everything begins to change. Erik is so far in the closet he's in Narnia and Asher has a dark past and trust issues that stand in the way of any relationship, let alone one with the brash American who hurts him every time they try to get together.
A relationship doomed from the start, or so you'd think.

Billy felt breathless as he struggled for words amid his dizzying onslaught of thoughts. Dammit! Someone has to look after these two morons. He moved their backpacks out of his way and ran after them as more yelling came from inside the poolroom. The strong aroma of chlorine stung his eyes and nose when he entered. He fanned his face, trying to guard it from the fumes. Erik was looming over Asher.
“That’s the last time you get on my case.” Erik crouched and dove at Asher, knocking him down.
Before Erik could pin him, Asher rolled and popped up. Bouncing on the balls of his feet, he taunted Erik. “Come on then, big boy. If you think you can take me, you’re going to have to do better than that. I’m going to enjoy this. You’ve got all the skill of a lumbering elephant. Keep blundering about like some stupid bull and let me show you how to dance.”
READ MOREBilly hung back. He knew how Erik was with revenge and fighting. Billy usually wouldn’t interfere unless it got too rough. Water was dangerous, though, and the pool was rimmed with concrete. He stood and said nothing, ready to pounce into action at any second.
Billy knew Erik didn’t like being called a bull or stupid. Erik did his best mimic of a twirl and stuck his long leg out at the last second, which Asher saw coming and gracefully avoided the clumsy attempt at a sweep, landing softly on the balls of his feet at the edge of the pool.
“Will you two please stop now?”
Billy’s plea was sincere and drew Asher’s attention at precisely the wrong moment. As he looked over and took his eyes off Erik, Erik grabbed the pool skimmer and swung it with all his might. The long handle caught Asher below the knee, swiping his legs out from under him.
Asher’s legs buckled, and he toppled over, his head bouncing off the side of the pool before he disappeared with an enormous splash into the sparkling water.
“What the fuck?” Billy’s screech was hugely loud. “You’ve lost it, man. You…” Billy gaped at the water. “What the fuck’s that?”
“What?” Erik followed Billy’s pointing finger, to see the red fluid in the water.
“It’s blood, dude,” Billy gasped. “And…and he ain’t coming up.”
