Or had never had anyone offer to do anything for him. Being an alpha meant always being strong. With his mate, he would be able to show another side of himself that he kept hidden from everyone else. That alone would be more than Or could ever ask for.
They sat there for a while, listening to the soft music as Barry sang about being his first last and everything. Or smiled thinking how that is exactly how he felt about his mate.
“What should we talk about?” Miller asked, breaking the silence.
Or thought a moment, then remembered something Miller had said earlier. “You said you dreamed about finding your mate since your dad first told you about them. You had this whole scenario and everything. Will you tell me what that was?”
Miller turned an adorable shade of pink. “It’s silly.”
“No dream you have is silly. Please, I’m curious.” Or urged.
READ MOREMiller didn’t look in his direction as he spoke, “I often would go running in the forests surrounding my home. I may have hated my cackle, but I loved my home.”
Miller turned to Or then back to look out the window, saying, “Cal told you that because I was an Aardwolf my cackle despised me. My alpha more than most. He said the name alone said I wasn’t a hyena and therefore I didn’t belong. I was bullied more times than even Cal knows about. I would be running, minding my own business and out of no where a few of my cackle would appear, chase me until I was exhausted then beat me until I couldn’t get up.”
A low growl had Miller turning to Or, and lightly squeezing his hand, “It’s okay. Those days are in the past.”
“I still don’t have to like it.” Or replied, still feeling the anger churning inside.
Smiling, Miller whispered, “Thank you.” Then continued, “I would have to lay there and wait to heal. I couldn’t go back and let my family see what had happened. My father was a strong man, but he was no match for three or more hyenas at a time and Cal——well you can see, my brother doesn’t always think before he speaks.”
Or snorted and listened as Miller spoke. “So, there I was broken, bloody, and hurting. I would lay there dreaming about how one day these guys would be attacking me and out of no where my mate would appear. He would pounce on them, kill them, and save me from harm. He would then take me to a beautiful river side and make love to me, as he made me his. It didn’t matter that I didn’t know his name or anything at all about it. I would trust in Fate. I would trust in him. He was my mate, my intended, the one I would love beyond all others.”
Or didn’t know quite what to say. He would love to be his knight in shining armor. He must have been quiet for too long, because Miller pulled his hand out of Or’s whispering in shame, “I know, it’s stupid and I sound like a girl.”
Or quickly took Miller’s hand in his own once more. Bringing his other hand up, Or gently placed a finger under Miller’s chin, turned his mates head until silver met golden brown, “Miller, it isn’t stupid, it’s romantic and beautiful. I was sitting here thinking how I would have loved to of been your knight in shining armor. I would have loved to of ripped those bastards throats out for even thinking about touching you. And, I was thinking how much I would love to make love to you.”
COLLAPSEMobookworm on www.amazon.com wrote:I really enjoyed this riveting romance between, Miller, and the alpha of a cackle of hyenas, Or, that gave Miller, and his brother (Cal) sanctuary. The only thing that personally bothered me, was the name, Or. Sometimes it wasn't capitalized, which threw me off from some portions of the story (I can be slow that way sometimes =D). However, I really liked the secondary characters, and the fact that there were other mates who needed to get together. It's always delightful when there's more than just one couple. I won't say who they are, but I sure hope that there will be another book, since I found this cackle highly fascinating. There's danger, and suspense, as well as lots of heat, but there were some issues or problems that went unsolved. Overall, it was a pleasant read, I mean, hyenas! =)
Wellllll, what to say????
Hyenas, I was like, no way will this be sexy, interesting or something I'd like cause you know hyenas are usually the bad guys after all!!
See what being judgmentall will get ya! I almost missed out on an amazing start to a new series cause I prejudged it, so wrong on my part!!
I should have known better, Cree Storm brings her unique outlook to all her characters and this was no exception!
Cal and Miller grabbed me from page one and then we were introduced to Or, Jackson and the rest. This had a great plotline, plenty of emotions and also some sexiness!
I see so many stories I'd love to have now, Cal, Jackson, Nyx, gimme more!
