About The Book
Captain Ales is a lonely smuggler at the galaxy’s Outer Verge, and the last of his people. He’s been trying to move on from a life of drugs and meaningless sex, but finding love in this forgotten corner of the galaxy is difficult.
When he’s sent on a mysterious smuggling mission to a world under siege, he’s enticed by promises of the domination he craves. But soon Ales finds himself entwined in a galactic power struggle that could cost him everything.
The Review
This is an interesting juxtaposition of a science fiction adventure with erotica. I hesitate to call it BDSM as it lacks any of the safe, sane, consensual elements necessary for that designation. There are definitely elements of non-consent/dubious consent scenes. The sexual encounters are somewhat disjointed in the flow of the narrative. This is due in large part because of the level of violence that is included. This is by no means a romance.
Ales is a great central character, and as the last survivor of his world, we see the chaos of war and scraping by in the aftermath through his eyes. The other main characters are less successful. I think if there was more time spent with these side characters, that the story as a whole would have been more successful.
The world building is well done, and as this is the first book in a series, I am hoping that future storylines will allow more investment in these other men. The premise and promise of this story are strong.

In writing this bio I am taking a rare break from reading! I always have a book on hand just in case there is time to sneak in a chapter or two. As a military spouse and a mom of two boys, it is amazing how often I am hurrying up to wait. Luckily for me I don’t have a favorite genre so I get lots of fun authors to choose from. My education was in sociology and mental health counseling, so stories with strong character development are my favorites. Happily Ever After is the best part of romance for me because real life is hard enough.
