About The Book

They have to find him … but how?

A former member of an elite military special forces unit, Leo Bailey can handle anything life throws at him. Except maybe approaching a certain gorgeous, purple mohawk-wearing, heavily pierced artist. Not without his three eye-rolling wingmen along to push him in the right direction.

One look at the mouthwateringly muscled, military buzzcut-sporting man with the endearing blush, and Vincent Noland is in love. Or at least in lust. Love comes later. Then marriage … and sweet, adorable Oscar.

Life is perfect — the stuff of fairy tale happily ever afters — except for Arthur Fletcher, whose unsettling reactions to them threaten to upset the happy balance of their lives. But it isn’t Arthur who throws their lives into turmoil.

A freak event causes Oscar to go missing and leaves both men frantic to rescue their son. As they piece together the clues, they discover that Oscar isn’t somewhere. He’s somewhen. And Arthur Fletcher holds the key — or rather the glass beads — to their one chance of finding Oscar.

Will Leo’s training, Vinnie’s determination, and Arthur’s knowledge help them find Oscar, or is the little boy doomed to spend the rest of his life at the mercy of a primitive civilization? Could there be a third possibility?

The Review

Vincent Noland is having a showing of his art at a gallery but is feeling anything but positive. Fortunately his negative feelings are for nothing because his show is a success professionally and he is about to have a successful personal life as well. Vincent has piercings all over his face and wears a purple mohawk but that doesn’t stop Leo Bailey from wanting to date him. Leo and his army buddies are walking around the gallery when Vincent approaches them asking if they need help, it is Leo’s wingman who immediately states that they are there for Leo who was too nervous to make a move. Vincent answers yes and that is when the story begins to jump from one time period to another.

A proposal, a marriage and then a child and it just rushes from one period to another. This has nothing to do with the actual time travel aspect of this book. A visit to the park with their son Oscar, a portal that takes them to a different time, being chased by natives with spears and a rush back to the portal. Unfortunately the only two that make it back through are Leo and Vinnie and the handlebar of Oscar’s stroller.

Presumed dead by the police and family Leo and Vinnie are determined to find the portal and return for their son and they enlist the help of Arthur Fletcher an archeologist who always seemed to panic when he saw them and who they nicknamed “Creeper Guy”. There is no doubt in their minds that Arthur knows what is going on especially when he has used the term “Butterfly Effect”. The search for a way back to Oscar and the time travel aspect of the story is what left me confused. I have read time travel books before but this one was a miss for me, the time jumps between meeting, marrying and baby happened so fast with no in between, how the romance blossomed, how their lives changed and the decision to have a baby.

The time travel part is where I went from “like” to “so so.” But the relationship, what I saw of it, was beautiful and the love for their son was heartwarming.
