Starting all over again isn't easy, especially for pack alpha River. With his small band of followers and his half-human, half-omega mate by his side, he's left everything he knows for the wilderness. Tragedy brings the group to Cascade City, where rogue werewolves and humans both pose a threat to the pack. River isn't sure he can trust the humans anymore, and telling which rogues are dangerous and which are not is a difficult task. Foremost on the pack alpha’s mind is getting those in his charge to safety and after that rebuilding their pack. Beneath River’s worries lies an uncomfortable feeling that something isn't quite right with the pack's omegas.

The Cascade City Pack Series is the continuation of the River Wolf Pack. Yes, read those three books first because characters overlap and the plot here will make more sense. This book opens with more tragedy. Alpha River took his small pack of loyal followers, looking for land or a safe place to settle. They're attacked, and some of their group is killed. Yes. From there River has to dig deep and do the best for his pack. Everyone does what they can, pulling together, and making a new start -- 'A New Beginning.'

This review encompasses both books in the Cascade City Pack Series. It's not enough this pack has to suffer thru tragedy and face new trials, it seems they never get a break. But their efforts pay off and relations between the humans and werewolves are improving. The plot in these two books was outstanding - Riveting - Watching the maturity and growth of everyone in River's pack, under his leadership. Even other alphas recognize and admire his pack and those compliments make a huge difference. In this series is a deeper look at the various relationships in the pack, new pairings and members. It's also about adjusting to city life and finding a home where they can grow.

I'm curious to see how the series unfolds. Josiah's instincts are right in not trusting that scentless alpha boyfriend, even if he works on behalf of wolves. And his parents are rich - Rich wolves? And are they pack or spouting this rhetoric like their son? Why would they put up bail money for someone they don't know? It's like the returning beta pack member is now a spy. . . That whole situation was too suspicious. I'm wondering if Jax will take the bite. . . And if he'll heal from the horrors of his marriage. Then there's David and recovering from being in prison. Yes, a lot was left hanging there. - Dan's Wife

A great read. Enjoyed catching up with River Josiah and the others again as they form a new pack. Devastated about Jax. Recommend to read this series as well as River Wolf Pack and Angel Hills Pack.

I really enjoyed this despite making the mistake of reading a couple of other (non related) books, then the 2 books about the omegas that went to Angel Hills Pack, after finishing the River Hills Pack trilogy. It meant I couldn't remember who some of the werewolves and humans were and who was mated/paired with who and the back stories.
I got there in the end but it did frustrate me. My advice read this book straight after the trilogy and then the Angel Hills books.
I still found the book thoroughly enjoyable and loved how the author brought even more complexities and issues to resolve or overcome, than already existed in River's new pack.
The new characters blended well and helped in either the formation of Cascade City pack, or in protecting both the newly formed pack, the rogue weres and the species as a whole.
I highly recommend this book especially if you enjoyed the River Hills Pack trilogy. However, my advice is don't read this as a stand alone.
I hope the author writes more instalments as there as so many threads within this book and with these characters that could be further developed. The epilogue just added to that rather than brought some conclusion.

Most of all I think River and Josiah need to have another baby, this time a werewolf - twins would be perfect, one alpha, one omega. Failing that just let River have an Alpha son to become Pack Alpha heir.....please.

All in all, this and all the books in the series or series spin offs have been excellent and I would recommend them all. The trilogy was my first exposure to Rebecca James but I shall certainly be reading more of her books in the future.

Enjoy xxx
