The Review
Zander Wright is a high profile defense attorney and co-founder of Z&G Law Firm Inc. As a young, successful, black man, you’d think he he had the best of both worlds. He was adopted by the wealthy Carlisle Wright, who gave him all the opportunities, but they came with a very high price. Zander has never felt like the Wrights were a true family for him – he wanted his real family, and that was to be with Vadim Oblonsky and Petyr Yahnotov.
Vadim Oblonsky, Zander Wright, and Petyr Yahnotov all met as young boys at the Orphanage. Vadim and Zander had never known who their parents were. They both became good friends. Vadim taught Zander Russian and in-turn Zander taught Vadim how to read English. Petyr became friends with the boys as he spent time at the Orphanage because of his mother, Maria.
All seemed good with the trio being friends, until a misunderstanding that seemed to cause a tragedy. Eventually when Zander was adopted, and a bigger divide was created in this once precious friendship.
Vadim has been in prison for three years without not a word from Zander. Now Zander has come to get Vadim released – he needs his help, as someone is attempting to kill him. There’s great animosity from Vadim, but he eventually agrees to help Zander. Once Zander is safe, he will leave for good.
The pressure from a high profile case, Zander’s adoptive father Carlisle, sabotage, conflict with Vadim, the continuing threat of death, and issues with Petyr cause Zanders own psychological issues to worsen.
This is a first time read for me for this author, and I was not disappointed. Jones is outstanding at creating this complex, well written, highly suspenseful, dark themed psychological thriller, filled with mystery, twists, lies and betrayal. It’s highly emotional, and delves deeply into friendships, love, jealousy, and corruption.
The author mines Zander, Vadim and Petyr lives as young boys too. Zander is especially focused on with the pressure of a home life that’s both verbally and mentally abusive, and his memories take him back to the streets and the orphanage, where life was more secure for him with Vadim.
Vadim also has a revelation as he looks deeply into himself and realizes how much Zander has struggled with his own psychological issues.
“Years of Silence” is very intriguing and a real page-turner. I was so impressed that it made me curious about J.K. Jones’ “A Fall from Grace” series. I plan to invest some time and start reading that series too!

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.
I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.
My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!
As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.
My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.
I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.
But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
