About The Book
Agent Pan has spent most of his adult life protecting shapeshifters from the Knights—an organization bent on their annihilation—and keeping the secret war in the shadows where it belongs. But the Knights are growing bolder, and a new threat has resurfaced after being buried in the ocean for centuries.
An ancient scroll, a key to a devastating weapon, is now in the hands of a recalcitrant Russian hawk shifter named Viktor. As a bird shifter, he knows his duty is to protect the scroll, but he wants nothing to do with the war. He leads a quiet life and wants to keep it that way. But when agents come knocking on his door, he finds it difficult to resist the charms of Agent Pan, especially since this isn’t their first meeting.
Three years earlier they spent a passionate weekend together, neither aware of the other’s true identity. Viktor never really got over Pan. Now with sexual tension at its peak, they must learn to trust each other and work as a team to protect not only their loved ones, but every shifter in the world.
Second Edition with revised text.
The Review
Feather and Scroll (The Shifter Chronicles 11) follows on directly from Shifting Moon and deals with the consequences of being in possession of one of the dangerous scrolls. It concerns Viktor, his niece Natyasha, and Tommy, together with Agents Pan and Jin.
It also involves the Knights from Shifting Moon as the hunt for the scroll escalates further. It’s not just the scroll the Knights are after as they attempt to gather all the tools that might be required to ensure the end of things as we know them. In Shifting Moon this involved Brian, but that option was thankfully avoided. Here an alternative becomes available, another human with Fae blood and a similar skill set.
Pan and Jin really have their work cut out dealing with Victor, a bird shifter. Viktor and Pan have a history and never expected to meet again. When they do, something ugly is going to rear its head – that inconvenient thing called love. Okay, not ugly, but definitely inconvenient when a loss of focus might mean death or worse.
It is not just the Knights who want to claim the scroll. The bird shifters have a long history of keeping the scrolls safe. Glory, the master bird shifter, joins in the fight, and additional forces are going to be needed in the battle for the world. We and the Agent finally get to meet the most important one in the fight against Arcas. Who that is is for you to read – no spoilers here!
It’s good to see that there might be a chance for humans and shifters to get out of this war alive.
Things are definitely heating up here, and the dangers are increasing exponentially. I like the fact that interactions between the characters are not swept away, even in the face of death. Pan’s relationship with Jin and Victor are almost polar opposites but are nicely dealt with.
Some characters are a bit superficial, but this is not really their story. Natasha and Tommy are a bit sidelined as a result, even though they had a significant role for a brief moment. Ah well, seems you cant have it all.
There is still some distance to go but I am ready for it – bring it on!

He is a retired lecturer and a writer of no renown but that doesn’t stop him enjoying what he used to think of as ‘sensible’ fantasy and sf. He’s surprised to find that if the story is well written and has likeable characters undergoing the trails of life, i.e. falling in love, falling out of love, having a bit of nooky (but not all the time), fending off foes, aliens and monsters, etc., he’ll be happy as a sandperson who has just offloaded a wagon of sand at the going market price. As long as there’s a story, he’s in. He aims to write fair and honest reviews. If he finds he is not the target reader he’ll move on.,
