About The Book
Freddie Duchamps-Avery has only one desire this Christmas: to ask his beloved Reuben to marry him. However, with his needy father moping around, finding the perfect, romantic moment to propose is proving tricky.
The Rt Hon. Charles Duchamps-Avery is a successful politician, a hopeless father, and a miserable divorcé. Facing the prospect of Christmas alone in London, he accepts his son Freddie’s generous invitation to join the gang at Rossingley. Yet, being surrounded by happy couples only serves to remind of his past mistakes and a looming, lonely old age.
If only a handsome, enigmatic stranger would appear and distract him…
The Review
This book is filled with delightful moments. From Freddie’s quest to find the perfect setting for a proposal to Charles’ compulsion to share stories about his orchids, every interaction showcases the charms of each character. The narrative swings back and forth from Freddie’s perspective to that of his father Charles’ with a fluid rhythm. The contrast between their perspectives highlights both the challenges and the joys of different generations at different stages of life.
Set in the fictional country estate of Rossingly during the Christmas season, the story introduces a wide variety of personalities with interesting backgrounds. Most of the characters in this book have been introduced in earlier books from the Rossingly series, but the artfully constructed narrative allows the reader to step into this book without feeling like they have missed out on any crucial plot points from previous books.
However, the tidbits hinted at in the story are enticing enough to encourage someone to hunt down the previous books in the series while they wait in anticipation for the next addition.
This is a lovely story that brings a sense of hope that people with disparate lives can build connections which bring them together in meaningful ways. If you’re looking for an endearing holiday romance that leaves the reader feeling like a participant in the story rather than just an observer, this is an excellent story to sit down to a cup of tea with.
Five stars.

Lives in the Pacific Northwest and vacations in the desert as often as possible. She is allergic to garlic, sleeps during the day whenever possible, and breaks out in an allergic rash when exposed to excessive sunlight. She has a degree in engineering, works at a comic book store, and goes for long bike rides at night during the full moon because of the sun allergy. Aethena was forced to switch to mostly e-books and audio books when the last floor to ceiling bookcase started to overflow. She is on her fifth e-reader, and is contemplating using her engineering degree to design an e-reader that can withstand her capacity for destruction.
