About The Book

Zev Nightfall has a secret. For two years, he’s been the beta in a loosely knitted werewolf pack, but he’s not a werewolf. He’s a crossbreed, part wolf, part fae, which is a death sentence in most packs. That’s not his only problem. One night he meets Otis, a vampire. Shifters and vampires aren’t friends, yet fighting is the last thing on Zev’s mind.

Otis Miller is in the middle of rebuilding his rockstar persona. Again. A hundred years ago, all he had to do was to move when people started noticing him not ageing. With cameras and social media, it doesn’t work anymore, and he isn’t sure he has the energy to start over. Then there is the shifter coming to the bar where he’s singing. He makes Otis want to jump off the stage and never look back.

Zev knows he shouldn’t get involved with a vampire; he has enough problems as it is. But Otis is alone and vulnerable, and it tugs at Zev’s heartstrings. Normally, Otis stays away from other supernatural beings, but something about Zev makes him want to curl up on his lap and forget about the world around them. But how would two people from enemy species make things work, and will Zev’s pack ever accept not only a crossbreed but a vampire as well?

The Review

The Drunken Dog is a fun, quick read with just a little danger.

Zev Nightfall is a unique shifter, and he keeps his secret to himself. Never having had a pack to call home has always been a concern. His friend Roarak, alpha of the Halfhide pack, has a mate named Sam who is quite unique too. Luckily for Zev, he’s been accepted by the Halfhide packm but will he be able to really it home?

Otis Miller is a lead singer and a centuries-young rock star with a butterfly tattoo. As fun as being a rock star is, Otis knows he will soon have to move on. He can only look the same for so long. He doesn’t have a dayman to watch out for him. The Drunken Dog’s owner Gerald is human, and Otis’ best friend. But Gerald is getting older and won’t be around much longer. Otis fears the loss of Gerald, because he knows he will be alone again.

Zev is looking for a place to hide for a while. He’s found the perfect spot the Drunken Dog. On this night Otis just happens to be performing, Zev arrives, and Otis finds himself attracted to the shifter. Otis can’t let it go. He has to meet Zev.

With trouble threatening the Halfhide Pack, and Zev’s secret and connection with Otis, can these two find a place to call home together?

The Drunken Dog is a nicely written, short shifter/vampire tale! Otis Miller was lots of fun to read. He’s like a hyper vampire! Zev Nightfall, on the other hand, is much more relaxed and easy going. The two make a great match.

I also loved Gerald, the human bar owner. He’s a very caring and protects Otis.

There are also other members in the Halfhide Pack here: Olcan, Geri, York and Falcon. Falcon is an intriguing character – maybe Ofelia will write his story one of these days.

I loved the cover too, with Otis and his butterfly tattoo.

Even though it’s brief, Grand knows how to write great characters who make an instant connection with the reader. For a short paranormal story, The Drunken Dog has just the right amount of danger, action, humor, romance, and a touch of sadness.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California.  Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018.  My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen.  New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012.  She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series.  Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing.  I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews.  One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group.  Joining her site was such an eye opener.  I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
