As a child, Caleb Vega was given to his family’s enemies.
It was either that or death when they lost the long-standing war with the Corvin pack. Rather than annihilation, a deal was made: Caleb, the future Vega Alpha, would be raised alongside the future Corvin Alpha, Eli, so they would be as close as brothers and mend the rifts between their families. It was a plan for peace. For years, it even seemed to be working.
There’s been just one hitch: Caleb didn’t present as an Alpha. He’s an Omega.
As an Omega, he’s grown to be much more than a brother to Eli Corvin, with vivid dreams of one day being his mate.
But when Caleb’s father dies without knowing his secret, Caleb returns home to a pack that’s expecting him to take his rightful place. Instead, Caleb must tell everyone the truth—a truth that throws his pack into chaos and threatens the peace with the Corvin pack.
While not an Alpha, Caleb has to fight for that peace. If he fails, the packs will return to war, and Caleb will have to choose between allying himself with his lover or his family.
REVERSING A RIVALARY is m/m Omegaverse novella in a contemporary setting that includes explicit sex. It is not suitable for young readers. Content warnings include a verbal threat of sexual violence/assault.
The Review
A different approach to the omegaverse – characters who can’t take different shapes but are alphas, omegas and betas. It’s the story of two packs who were deadly enemies, the Vegas and the Corvins. After a battle, the Vegas lost, and rather than have the family killed, the alpha of the Corvins decides to grant a wardship. Caleb Vegas was sent to live with the Corvins until such time as his father dies and he returns as the new alpha.
A car accident brought about Caleb’s dad’s death sooner than expected, finally putting Caleb in the scary position of revealing the secret he has been hiding. He is not an alpha but an omega, something that hasn’t happened in his pack for a million years.
Caleb has to face the embarrassment that his secret will bring his family and all the pack, in addition to jeopardizing the peace that his father and the alpha of the Corvin pack had put in place. As the new alpha, Caleb was expected to continue the peace but that will not happen now. A new alpha will be appointed, one who may not want to keep the peace.
Caleb also has to face the fact that he loves Eli Corvin. Eli is an alpha, but until everything is settled between the two packs, their future together is in jeopardy. Returning home for his father’s funeral and to finally reveal the secret that he is an omega, he faces the disappointment he expected, and the fact that he and Eli may never realize their dream of mating.
This is a great short story, filled with love, romance, sex and two wonderful characters.
