Eight nights to fall in love.
Running away from his foster home at eighteen, Locke struggles to survive the brutal winter streets in Atlantic City. Trust is a fickle thing, and Locke hasn’t had much of it. He’s worked hard for everything he has. When a helpful security guard takes him in during a Code Blue, Locke discovers that some things are more than they seem. His fantasy becomes reality, but sometimes reality is too good to be true.
Graced by God, Judah Maccabee has dwelt in Yahweh’s kingdom for nigh on two thousand years, rising through His ranks to become a leader among the warrior angels. A blessing bestowed, Yahweh has found the one for him. Now Judah has only the eight nights of Chanukah to fall in love with the one who will complete him. The only catch – his other half must love him in return if he is to stay earthbound. But expecting Locke to fall just as hard and fast as he does rebounds in a devastating way.
When egos rule and demons lurk, can these two men pull together, trust in family and faith, and earn love? And can they do it in a single week?
The Review
Yahweh has told Judah Maccabee that he has a gift waiting for him in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a gift Judah knows is his other half. Judah has the eight nights of Chanukah to find and get his soulmate to love him, or he will have to wait another year to try again.
Locke is nineteen years old, and has gone from one home to another until he finally found a home with his foster parents, who he calls the Foster Doctors. Overhearing a conversation between them, talking about joining Doctors Without Borders, Locke assumes that he is once again going to be sent to another foster home. so he jumps the gun and leaves before he is tossed out.
Now he is living on the streets again, freezing and starving, too proud to ask for help and too afraid of going to a shelter where he knows he will be tormented because of being gay. His home is a cardboard box, and he eats out of dumpsters. He’ ha’s been searching for his father who he has never met, and whose name he doesn’t know.
Judah has assumed the role of an off-duty security guard and offered his services to the Atlantic City Police Department, searching for the homeless and bringing them to a shelter for protection. He is led to an alley, where he discovers someone living in a cardboard box and knows it’s his other half. What he doesn’t know is the person’s name or gender. Ari and Gabriel (from book one) offer to help, and Ari talks to Locke and convinces him that Judah is his cousin.
Trust is something Locke has very little experience with, so he accepts Judah’s while keeping his guard up and waiting for the axe to drop.
Judah has eight nights to get Locke to love him, but during the day he is returned to Heaven. He’s also worried about the age difference – Judah is twenty-nine in human years and Locke is nineteen, and has known little or no love and has had to fight for everything he has. So opening his heart to love and trust will be very difficult for him.
You might think that at nineteen, it’s unrealistic to fall in true love, but I was married at that age, and stayed married for sixty years. This story brought back many memories for me – celebrating Chanukah, dreidels, chocolate gelt, and lighting the menorah – minus a visit from demons, of course. LOL…
What happens with Judah and Locke is not something I am willing to reveal, but it was quite a surprise. This book is 427 pages long, but don’t let that put you off. It moved very quickly, and I was glued to the page.

I am an avid reader the mother of 3 sons and grandmother to seven grandchildren. Since retiring I have been doing more reading while volunteering as a CASA worker. CASA is an organization that works with the family court system to ensure that children are in the best living situation. There are way too many children that get overlooked in the foster care system and I visit homes and make visits to the parents. I was born and raised in New York and my husband of 50 years and I live in Upstate New York.
