Is any case too cold to crack?
Book 8 in the Lessons in Murder series, by award-winning, best-selling author Edale Lane.
Jenna’s gaze lingers over the diamond rings in the showcase. She wants to pop the question to her partner Randi if she can only arrange the perfect proposal. Per usual, her work as Roanoke PD’s leading homicide detective gets in the way, not to mention the inconveniences of an early winter storm.
Randi, who knows Jenna isn’t ready for marriage, has a surprise planned for their first anniversary. She’s also crafting a strategy to visit both their families for Christmas while preparing for the end of the semester.
When a dying mother asks Jenna to investigate her daughter’s unsolved murder from thirty years ago, she can’t refuse. Despite the unlikelihood of success, she digs into the past and interviews whoever is still alive. But will buried concerns unearthed by the investigation give Jenna cold feet?

it was amazingOnce again Edale Lane has written a great book! Her words are meaningful & she has developed the relationship between Jenna & Randi & made it into something spectacular.
Jenna with her investigative skills & Randi teaching at the college, you would think they didn't have much in common. Edale has shown them to be compatible in every day life. Randi keeps Jenna's temper under control & she listens to her & pays attention to her body language.
Anyway, Jenna is once again faced with a "cold case" & has set out to look at the case & try to come up with an answer. The answer she finds Is one that bothers her & one that has no easy solution to overcome the inequities. You will not be disappointed with this book, but rest assured that it will make you angry, sad & a lot of other emotions inside those pages. It is certainly a page turner & I read it in one sitting!
I wonder if there will be another book with these two MC's. There are still a few unresolved issues.
I received an ARC from the author.
Xiaoqing on GoodReads wrote:I should start that I like this whole series ... Jenna and Randy make a realistic couple with real live issues handled in realistic ways. The series isn't just romance though, there is always a case to get in the way. Jenna's team is also interesting and fun. This particular book has a VERY interesting and heartbreaking case to solve AND we watch Jenna struggle (she does have some angst!). The book is a fun time with a great balance between crime and romance. I received an ARC.
Betsy on GoodReads wrote:I am a fan of this Lessons in Murder series, each book tells an unique and compelling murder mystery, and this book is just as good. The author throws a curve ball on the 30 years old cold case, and the ending is a big surprise! I enjoyed the intimate relationship between Jenna, the lead detective and her girlfriend, professor Randi, as well as the friendship among Jenna's fellow officers. Every character in this book stands out, besides the MCs, I especially love the young detective Jamison, she is beautiful inside and out, elegant , personable, brave and intelligent. I wish to read more about her in the future books.
Another great mystery. I love to see how Randi and Jenna are growing as a couple. This book focuses on a 30-year-old cold case. A teenager was shot on her way home from school. The detective at the time put it down to gang violence and it never went any further. Now Jenna and Jamison are determined to find the truth.
I would recommend this book and the others in the series.
