Why does love have such bad timing? When one gives up on love, why does it come knocking on the door in the form of an uptight lawyer who thinks he’s better than a world-weary young cowboy?

Ranch hand Mickey Warren moves to Holloway, Virginia, in search of a better life. From the day he arrives at Katydid Farm, the family treats him as one of their own, even inviting him to live at the ranch house when his only option is sleeping in his old truck. The family makes Mickey feel as if he’s finally been accepted and loved for the man he’s become.

Mickey doesn’t dwell on his unhappy past or his surprising breakup from a younger man who didn’t do him the courtesy of saying goodbye—or saying anything at all. Mickey tries not to be bitter about the events from his past that have broken his heart. Instead, he chooses to look forward to the future with as much optimism as he can muster. He almost loses his hope for a better future, but then, he meets… The Lawyer.

Jon Wells is his parents’ son in every aspect of his life—a family law attorney like his father; empathetic defender of the underdog, like his mother; and loyal friend and supporter as he’s been taught by both parents. They have John’s life all planned for him. The glitch in that plan—it isn’t Jon’s plan.
