My Zombie Boyfriend

Edward Grey is a medical student and lives with the first zombie he has ever raised, his cat Boo. Edwards life is simple, well to him its simple, studying medicine, working on his necromantic powers and the weekly dinners with his family. Edward stumbles across a hot but dead corpse in the park and he is so taken with his beauty that he has to do something for the poor guy.

Kit was murdered and left to die in a park and then Edward comes across his dead body and takes him home and turns him into his very own zombie. Something strange happens that Edward has never seen in another zombie before. Kit can talk, think and has a personality and man this zombie's personality is hilarious and quite demanding. Kit is not like any other zombie and Edward is thinking OMG what have I gotten myself into with this hot zombie and his very high maintenance ways.

I absolutely love all MM zombie stories and I was so intrigued with My Zombie Boyfriend as it so different from all the others. Yes there is gore of course, come on you need some gore in a zombie story, and the best ever humour and a sweet connection between Edward and Kit. The sub-characters of Edwards parents and his mentor Mariel was some great added characters that I thought flowed so well with the story. I was so pleased with the writing style of T. Strange and the brilliant story that she created for us and the way she brings these characters to life..no pun intended (lol) was just the best ever. I highly recommend My Zombie Boyfriend to everyone, even if you have never read a zombie story before make sure to read this one as you will not be disappointed.

I've been a fan of T. Strange since the first story I picked up, so I was thrilled to see this novel. This gem of a book definitely lives up to its promise of humor, light romance, and a bit of creepy fun. I was hooked from page one.
I'm a sucker for quirky characters, and Edward, the narrator, is definitely an oddball. Each of the people we meet are equal parts weird and loveable. I alternated between creeped out, frustrated, and madly in love with all of them by the end of the story.

Since I'm a fan of non-traditional love stories, this definitely hit a sweet spot for me. I don't think it's possible to have a "traditional" romance between a human and a zombie anyway. Readers should be aware that if they are looking for the kind of sexy sensuality or emotional drama found in most romances, they won't find it here. Even so, there's plenty to keep everyone swinging from laughter to creepy shivers to just plain sighing, "Oh, Edward" right along with Kit--sometimes all on the same page.

All in all, I loved it, start to finish. And props to the author for creating the sort of bisexual character I like to see (even though Kit never actually says the word, nor does anyone outright identify him that way).

I am really excited to have read this book and to review it. When I think of zombies, I don’t usually consider them as the romantic lead in a story. Mostly they are the backdrop in which the protagonists need to escape and survive. In My Zombie Boyfriend, zombies aren’t a mass herd of mindless brain eaters, but the product of voodoo practitioners and/or those with the gift of necromancy. As far as I know there aren’t many of them around and their diet is gross, but doesn’t consist of human brains and flesh.

Edward is a medical student who is close with his parents, but socially awkward. He was born with the natural gift to reanimate the dead and has tested the extent of his abilities. Mostly he brings things back to life and removes that power when he is done testing. Twice in his life though he had felt an itching in his palms and a pull to bring back something that was “his.” The first time was with his cat, Boo and the second time was when he found a young and beautiful man in the bushes at the park near his home. Though he didn’t know who Kit was or how he died, he was drawn to him and breathed life into him.

Kit is unlike most zombies. Though he is distrustful of his new status and has no memory of his life, he seems to retain some of his former personality traits. Fashion and having fun are important to him and he clashes in ways with the Edward who is serious and doesn’t care a bit about the labels on his clothing. Kit also has a desire to be more than the zombie who crashes at someone else’s place doing nothing all day. He wants to work and go to school. He even forms friendships with Edward’s voodoo priestess friend and his parents. Soon the differences don’t seem to matter that much and Edward and Kit’s attraction to each other grows.

What you get in this story is mostly a sweet but very unconventional romance. I liked the chemistry the two had with each other and how Kit helped open Edward’s mind and showed him there was more to life than books. Everything was going well until Kit remembers his past and his last moments. For a moment the story is close to tipping into a horror. It was pretty dark, but Edward is able to catch up to Kit and with a little help from Mariel, the voodoo priestess, they are able to drag Kit from his (very) bloodthirsty revenge.

It takes a bit of time to rebuild bonds, but the ending of this book is very sweet. The author’s take on zombies was interesting and different from what I’m used to. There was a bit of suspense and a good amount of humor. I loved the two main characters and the supporting characters as well. I can’t wait to read what happens in the next book as they encounter something that they haven’t before.

This book took me completely by surprise. I loved this quirky story; it was the perfect mix of comedy, horror, m/m and paranormal romance all rolled into one.

Medical student by day and necromancer by night; Edward Grey leads a very insular existence. Attending classes during the day, weekly dinners with his parents and harnessing his powers with the assistance of his mentor, Mariel, in the evenings. His social circle is very limited with only Boo, his cat and first Zombie, as his constant companion. He’d rather have his nose in a book or be doing experiments in his basement.

On the way home from Mariel’s one night he comes across the fresh corpse of an attractive young male around his age and his power calls him to raise the man from the dead. And if he happens to ring Edward’s bell…..well that’s neither here nor there 😉

After his hilarious escapades getting the corpse home, Edward does just that. Only things don’t go as Edward expected; this is no brainless Zombie. This Zombie can talk and think for himself but has no memory of who he once was.

Edward christens him Kit, and the beginnings of a tentative friendship are forged. Kit has a flair for fashion and design and proves to be just the tonic Edward needs. Kit goes about making the most of his undead life; getting a job, revamping not just Edward’s house but his wardrobe as well. The boy loves to shop!

Edward’s attraction to Kit only grows as they get to know one another. His feelings become *coughs* harder to hide with hilarious consequences:

“He was certainly distressing my jeans and I hoped he wouldn’t notice.”

The smexy scenes are both heartfelt and intimate, but laugh out funny and squeamish at the same time!! Just as the two are settling into a burgeoning relationship, Kit’s memories return. What does this mean for them both with Kit hell-bent on revenge?!?!

There is a host of colourful characters including Edward’s mentor, Mariel and his eccentric parents who take everything in their stride. A Zombie cat with knack for losing body parts – thank heavens for a needle and thread!

I honestly can’t recommend this book more and I’m just ashamed to admit this is the first work I’ve read by this author. I loved the writing style and flow of the book. I eagerly look forward to reading more in the series.
