Prince Remy of Bentley was happy enough in his life. He had a loving family, and could keep himself busy every day, especially caring for his lizard, Daisy. But his calm and uneventful days came to an abrupt halt when his father announced someone had started negotiations for a marriage contract and he was the intended groom. The problem was the man behind the negotiations was the one Crown Prince in the world who hated him - Xavier.
Crown Prince Xavier of Balenborn had waited ten years to marry Prince Remy and he wasn't going to be thwarted by the knowledge that his intended might not like him very much. Many marriages were conducted between royal and society families, where the couple didn't know each other very well, and as far as he was concerned, he and Remy could learn about each other over time. The marriage contract was the only way Xavier could let Remy know how serious he was about him.
Initially things went well, but unlike Remy, Xavier had led a public life. One suspicious word in the wrong place, and his reputation was suddenly in tatters. Will Remy stand by his man, or will the social class expectations relating to royal families pull them apart?
This is part of the Arranged Marriage world I've created, although this story can be read as a standalone. The Epilogue sets the scene for the next book in this series.

“I’ll bet a kiss.”
“I beg your pardon, you bet what?” Remy wasn’t sure he’d heard right.
“I’ll bet you a kiss that George is stopping Dante from coming in here.” Xavier looked him straight in the eye. “You did say you’d bet anything.”
My goodness, is he serious? Remy swallowed hard. “Yes, yes I did,” he said slowly. “But how will we know where Dante is right now?” He made sure he looked as firm as he was able to. “You can’t yell for him. Not in here. And I don’t go giving kisses to just anyone who thinks they might have won a bet.” I don’t go kissing anyone ever, but Remy made sure that thought didn’t show on his face. “How will we know if you’ve won?”
READ MOREXavier smirked, or rather half-smirked. It was like he really wanted to crack his face in half with a brilliant grin, but someone told him he shouldn’t. “I’ll go, quietly,” he added as Daisy let out another grunt. “If I’m back in two minutes with a breakfast hamper, then will you take that as proof Dante was waiting outside?”
“I’ll give you five minutes,” Remy said, imagining the aforementioned Dante was probably eating the breakfast hamper in the stables with Xavier’s advisor. “George is going to try and stop you coming back in here. I trust you to talk him around to your way of thinking within five minutes. How does that sound?”
“That kiss is mine.” Xavier levered himself onto his feet, and moving cautiously, headed for the open doorway. “Five minutes, starting now.”
“He’s awfully sure of himself, for someone who probably won’t be allowed back in here at all…”
