Jake Chivis is the descendant of Fire Elementals with a gift for psychometry, the ability to see memories from touching objects. After a bad break up and trouble at work, Jake gave up his career as a detective in Detroit and moved to England to join a research program studying Elemental gifts at University College London. It seems like the perfect way to escape his past and start over, and this time he's not falling into the trap of dating a co-worker. At least, that's the plan, until he meets Doctor Ilmarinen Gale.

Mari Gale is blond, sexy, relentlessly academic and comfortable in his own skin in a way Jake envies. After a handful of embarrassing encounters, Jake is ready to resign himself to staying under the radar, but when a colleague's brother goes missing, Jake and Mari must work together to find him. As they dig into the inexplicable disappearance, Jake is impressed with Mari's competence and his unique skills, and even more impressed by his ability to wrap Jake around his finger. Together the unlikely pair discover murder, betrayal, secrets and just how high Mari can fan Jake's flames.

Review: Jake and Mari both worked well together when a colleague goes missing and things turn sinister. The mystery immediately sparked my interest and the many twists and turns kept me reeling and reading.

Doctor Mari Gale was sexy, seemed like a carefree academic that was very comfortable with himself. Jake is a descendant of a fire element with psychometry, the ability to see memories from touching objects that I found fascinating yet could imagine it was horrifying at times as well.

I was entranced with how well the mystery was written and how interwoven it was with the right amount of details to keep the reader reading until the very end. This book contains an ample supply of mystery, danger and enough sexy scenes to heat up the pages.

Great read.

Jake Chivis is the descendant of Fire Elementals with a gift for psychometry – the ability to see memories from touching objects. After a bad breakup and trouble at work, Jake gave up his career as a detective in Detroit and moved to England to join a research program studying Elemental gifts at University College in London. It seems like the perfect escape and place to start over, except this time he doesn’t plan on dating a coworker….until he meets Doctor Ilmarinen Gale and finds himself paired with the sexy academic as they work to find a co-worker’s missing brother.
Mari Gale has a unique gift that allows him to be a whiz with computers. It doesn’t take him long to notice the hot new guy in the psychology building, but the mixed signals he is getting from the guy has thrown him for a loop and force him to use all his wiles to get this guy’s attention. As the two pair together, they work to unravel the secrets of murder and betrayal while Mari convinces Jake that dating a coworker isn’t always bad.
If you like mystery/suspense stories, this book is going to reach out and grab you within the first few pages! Told in a generic point of view, someone faces the worst nightmare of waking up next to a dead body and having absolutely no memory of the last few hours. This one kept me guessing right up until the end!
The main characters in this story have paranormal abilities – which, if you’ve read my reviews, you know I am not a huge fan of – but, I will say that both of these abilities were well described and seemed “plausible” enough that I could believe that they really existed. Add in that the story has contemporary setting/time, and you have a book that even non-paranormal readers will enjoy.
The first meet between these two guys is probably one of the most awkward first meets ever! I immediately fell for Jake with his shy, stuttering, foot-in-mouth syndrome came to life! Add in a sexy, flamboyant, blond who doesn’t have a shy bone in him and you will be rooting like I was for these two to get together.
The sexy scenes were HOT!!! Add in that Jake’s clairvoyance skills allows him to “see” and “feel” things just from touching an object someone else touched…let’s just say that at times it bordered on voyeurism!
The secondary characters in this book remain secondary characters. Mari’s mom is to die for, some of their co-workers will irritate you, others you will wish you knew more about.
My one complaint is that the story ends with just a HFN…but being the first book in a new series, I am sure that we will be seeing more of Jake and Mari in the future!
For me, this book had it all. A mystery/suspense story that had me hooked and guessing from the start, main characters that I fell for immediately and loved watching them together, and some really hot sexy times! I highly recommend!!!
