Demon Masks and Angel Wings

by Lisa Oliver

Michael, Angel of Protection, knew he had a part to play in the mating scheme dreamed up by Head Office, and was happy to accept that. But during a date with a demon that was finally going somewhere, they were rudely interrupted with the news that Lucifer was gravely injured. All Michael wanted to do at that point, was get back to Gabriel.

Orobas was back doing what he did best, playing in the theatre and occasionally going on interesting dates with the angel Michael. Reporting back to the Underworld was not on his list of things to do, but orders were orders.

Lucifer vulnerable? How could that happen, and where did the threat even come from? Michael is charged with protecting the Lord of the Underworld, but at what cost to him and Orobas? And is their relationship even important if Lucifer and Gabriel are taken down?

Mature content intended for adults only. While reading the previous books in the series helps give context for the background story for the reader, it's not entirely necessary.

Michael nodded with his chin jutting out, acknowledging that he had just been ‘gotten.’ “That would be great,” he said. “It’s all for Head Office-type research, of course.”

“Of course,” Orobas smiled as his foot wandered across the floor under the table. He rubbed the side of his Italian leather brogue against the rigid denim on Michael’s calf. “Is there any particular demon or type of demon you’re interested in kissing? I’ve got lots to choose from.”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Michael said, quietly excited by the foot caressing him under the table. “Someone of your complexion, I’d say.” The angel chose his words carefully, hoping that Orobas would pick up on the hint.

“My complexion?” Orobas repeated, and then a playful, sexy, deliciously dangerous smile spread across his lips. “He’s not worthy of you then. How old should he be?”

“About your age,” Michael responded, feeling his cock start to harden. This was working exactly as he had hoped.

“Way too old, by heaven. You should take someone younger than yourself, or…” here Orobas stumbled, trying to remember the text.

“… or my affection cannot hold the bent?” Michael finished the line.

“Yes!” Orobas practically yelled, his voice echoing through the restaurant. A few heads turned. “Sorry,” he said, “but if you’re going to quote Shakespeare to me like that, you better be prepared to follow through with a love scene later on, not to mention a few costume changes.”

Michael chuckled. “Quote Shakespeare? Whatever are you talking about? This is how I always speak on my fifth date.”

“It may be your fifth date, but you’re spouting Twelfth Night,” Orobas beamed. “There’s nothing that turns me on faster - or more effectively - than that.”

“Good to know,” Michael said as he raised his mug one more time. “So, where should we go for this kiss?”

“Why not right here?” Orobas said as he began to lean across the bread and lobster. Resting his mug on the table, Michael leaned in as well, parting his lips for his first kiss with a devil. His heart was pounding, his palms were sweaty, and his groin was straining against the tightness of his jeans.

Just as their lips were about to touch, the unmistakable scent of sulfur filled the air, and suddenly a stranger was standing by the table, dressed all in black.

“Orobas,” the stranger spoke, his voice tired and attempting to sound authoritative. “Your presence in the Underworld is requested. You must come with me immediately.”
