Rylee had no idea where his life was going. He had a job he hated, a mate that wouldn’t make the move to claim him, a dragon that seemed to dislike him immensely, and his brothers were so busy with their own mates he had no one to talk to about any of it. Instead, Rylee made some hard decisions on his own. One of which could cause him to lose everyone he holds dear...including his own life.
Taj had no idea what was going to become of his mate and himself. Rylee still had not said he wanted to make their mating official, his maharishi wasn’t helping him woo Rylee in that direction, and now Rylee decided to defend a member of a rival biker gang accused of murder.
Spirit had no idea how to talk to a human but knew he had to figure it out quickly. He had Taj’s dragon heat getting worse every day, Rylee putting his life in danger trying to prove himself to no one but himself, and he had to do everything he could to keep both men alive so they could become one.
Will these three find the answers to their dilemmas, or will they take too long and lose whatever chance they have to become one?

“I came to talk to him about some business, like I tried to do yesterday. You guys ran me off before I could, so I came back tonight to try again.” Deak snapped.
“And I told you, to stay the fuck away from my husband!” Taj shouted.
Deak looked at Taj in confusion, “You said fiancé yesterday.”
Rylee quickly answered, “Well we are married in every way we can be without a ring. Now Mr. Deak, I don’t know anything about you coming to my home yesterday, but it doesn’t matter. You have no business disturbing me on my private time. I told you, I would look into your case and get back to you and I will. Now go home.”
“You said what?” Taj gasped, along with Rene and the others.
Rylee looked around the room, saying, “I said I would… ”
Rene stepped forward, hissing, “I know what you said, but you were mistaken. Now tell the man to be on his way.”
Bren stepped forward just as Rylee was about to lay into Rene for butting in on his business. “Rylee, please hold that thought.” Going to Deak, Bren took him by the arm, “Mr. Deak, Rylee always keeps his word. Now please leave before we are forced to call the police.”
“It’s Deak damn it, and we don’t have time. Like I said the DA is going ahead with the charges. You have to help him.” Deak argued, while being led to the door.
Sighing, Rylee said, “They won’t do anything until Monday, Deak. I’ll make some calls and see what I can find out. Now please, go home.”
The second Deak left the house, Rylee turned to Rene, “I realize you are the leader of this group. I respect that and you have to admit I have always treated you with respect.”
Rene nodded, “Yes you have. And since I am the leader… ”
“Do not finish that sentence, lover.” Bren warned.
Ignoring his sentience, Rene said, “I am ordering you to back off from this case.”
Rylee gasped then his eyes turned to mere slivers. He couldn’t remember ever being so angry. “You may be the boss of the D.O.A. but you are not now, nor will you ever be, my boss! Get something straight, Rene, I am not a D.O.A. member, and even if I was, when it comes to my professional life, not you, Taj, or the fucking gods themselves, will tell me what I can and cannot do. I am a grown ass man. I make my own decisions and choices in my life.”
“When you mated with Taj, you became a D.O.A. member, Rylee, and that made me your boss. You knew that going into your bonding.” Rene argued.
“This might come as a shocker to you, Rene, but when Taj and I decided to finally make our Sentience status official, you were nowhere in my thoughts. You see Rene, not everything is about you and the D.O.A.” Rylee snapped.
Rene turned to Taj, “Well maybe you should have, because when you joined with my second in command, you agreed to follow my orders whenever I gave them to you, just as everyone else is expected to do. We have a hierarchy for a reason.”
Rylee’s mouth opened and closed. His anger was so bad, he was damn near speechless.
“Oh damn, you’ve fucked up now, Rene.” Jude muttered.
Rylee marched up to Rene, hissing, “Get out of my house.”
Bren stepped forward, “Ry, wait a minute.”
Turning to Bren, Rylee said, “I love you, Bren, but I will not have an overbearing asshole in my house. Rene thinks that he can ride roughshod over me like he does to you and Jude,”
“Hey!” Jude shouted.
“But I am not you or Jude. I will not be told who I can and can’t represent. Nork and Lark tried that shit with me and I quit the firm.” Rylee stated, with a firmness he had not felt in a while.
The doorbell rang and Rylee started towards the door. Taj rushed forward, “I’ll get it, Tsi.”
“It is my house, my door, and my fucking pizza. I will get it my damn self.” Rylee snapped.
Opening the door, the pizza guy stood there holding two extremely large pizzas. Handing the man a generous tip, Rylee took the pizzas and walked past the men in the living room. “Lock the door behind you as you go.”
Rylee’s job is slowly killing him. He gets the guilty off and while his firm loves it, it is killing his soul. Will Rylee allow his soul mate to heal him?
Dragon Spirit is third in Cree Storm’s D.O.A. series. I enjoyed seeing Rylee get his happily ever after. While this story can be read as a stand-alone it is best read in order.
I love seeing Rylee learn to trust in himself. It was necessary in order to see and believe in those who love him. I love that Ms. Storm found a way for Rylee to see his worth. He struggled and it was obvious when you looked closer into Rylee’s world. I loved seeing Taj give him time…at least until it was causing more harm than good. I love that Ms. Storm allowed Rylee and Spirit to learn communication and trust were necessary to move forward and grab their future. Taj needed both Rylee and Spirit to accept themselves and each other for their future. I enjoyed seeing Rylee’s mind work. He struggled to understand relationships but solving other people’s problems was right in his wheelhouse. Seeing what is right in front of his face was a trial for Rylee but I loved seeing the journey Ms. Storm took him on.I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to this series by Ms. Storm. I can’t wait to see where she will take us next in this world she has created.
