“You think it will be ready by tomorrow morning?” Alaska asked in surprise.
Nodding, Elija replied, “Yeah. I know the technical parts work but I need to make sure the fit is right. If not, it could hurt Jigger instead of help him.”
“Okay, let’s do this. I still have a few things to get ready before we leave and I promised Gaby I would get with him before we left.” Alaska stated, walking out the door.
Elija and Alaska started making the short walk towards Jigger’s place when a large Arctic peregrine falcon. It looked like the thing was trying to fly but something must have been wrong with it because it would go straight up and then look like it was trying to even out but end up plundering to the ground.
“What the hell? I thought you were the only Arctic peregrine falcon in this area?” Elija murmured watching the poor bird hit the ground once more.
The falcon wobbled as if it was making a run for it then flapped it
s wings, taking flight once more only to hit the tree in front of him. Alaska and Elija both hissed and gasped, “oh shit.”
Watching the falcon shake his head then slump a bit, before taking a deep breath and turn back around. This time the bird jumped onto a large bolder using his wings to get some height, the bird sat for a moment and then began to flap his wings and use his feet to thrust off the boulder and into the air flapping his wings. Alaska could see the deep concentration the falcon had on his face as it began to fly and go higher in the air. It wobbled left then right but soon looked as if it had more control this time.
“Who is it?’ Elija quietly asked.
“I don’t know.” Alaska replied just as softly.
The falcon seemed to really start to get the hang of things and even began to glide through the air, wings open wide, feet tucked behind him, and tilting left then right. There was no way Alaska could hold back his smile. He loved flying in his falcon form. The freedom and peace he felt as the wind blew along his feathers and the air pushing from beneath his body. There was nothing like it in the world.
“Why don’t you go and see if you know the person?” Elija suggested.
Alaska quickly began to undress and call upon his animal, excited to see just who the bird was and maybe enjoy flying with someone for a change. He hadn’t flown with anyone since Morac was alive and Alaska was looking forward to giving it a go.
The tingles rippled through Alaska as he began his shift.
“What the fuck?” Elija gasped.
Alaska had no clue what was happening. He started to run but tripped and fell face first into the ground. Fuck a duck that hurt. What the hell is wrong with me?
Trying to comprehend what the hell had happened, it took a moment before he realized his body wasn’t that of a bird. First of all he had four legs not two. Second of all he had paws…paws with toes…five of them, short black legs, and when he turned his head he could see a long black body and tail…a tail…not with feathers…oh no…an honest to goodness tail.
“Holy shit, Alaska you’ve been switched!” Elija shouted.
I don't know why, but I love a book where one of the lead characters has a disability. I guess because I do too as well as my son. It is great to see that everyone regardless of their abilities, sexual orientation, etc. can find love. That is exactly what this book is about. Jigger learns that his disability does not mean he cannot find love or that he is a burden to that person. He has worth in himself. Luckily, Alaska sees past Jigger's disabilities and sees the man he is. A deep book that is entertaining, action packed, and hot.
