Excerpt:

[Gian] took another sip of his whiskey, enjoying the blanket of calm that surrounded him.

“Mind if I sit?”

He turned at the rich baritone voice, confirming the question had been aimed at him.

He nearly swallowed his tongue, struck by how handsome the man was.

Quickly recovering, Gian slowly spun his glass of whiskey on the bar top as he assessed the stranger. The man was tall, easily six feet, maybe an inch more. His light brown hair was short in the back and sides, but long enough at the top to sport the perfect I-don’t-give-a-fuck style. He was undoubtedly younger, but his eyes held an unmistakable wisdom beyond his years.

Gian craned his neck, peering around the man standing at his side. Every other barstool remained empty. He scratched his temple, casually scanning the room. There were several watchful eyes on their exchange.

So much for privacy.

He visually swept the man from his broad shoulders down to his narrow waist. Dressed in black slacks and a black button-down shirt with the sleeves pushed up his lean-muscled forearms, the man’s presence was commanding, far more than the other men in the club with their three-piece suits and platinum cufflinks.

With a simple tilt of his head, the man silenced a few of the neighboring conversations. The young man turned to face Gian again. His gaze was steady with eyes that were amber or green, the lighting made it a little tough to tell.

“Or I could just stand here while you keep staring at me like that.” A slow half smile curled the corner of his mouth.

Gian tapped his thumb against the bar top and narrowed his eyes. “There are a dozen other seats available.”

He shrugged. “I want this one.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re sitting next to it.”

About the Author

Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.
