Tina on Tina's Reviews wrote:For some reason, I felt like this was Ezra and Jewel's second book, but technically it is their first. The kind of piggy backed on Jaggers's book in the Maddox Series. So for them to get their own book now was like visiting two old friends for me.
We learn more about the vampires and watch them build a new town for themselves, literally. I am so glad that Ezra eavesdropped on Jewel's conversation. It probably saved their mating and their town.
I am so hoping that Nelson and Orion's Book is next.
Ezra has a lot on his shoulders. He is the new King and representative of his people on the Council. But his mate needs him. Jewel is struggling in his new role and home. He is also keeping secrets. Will he ever trust his mate enough to let him in?
New Beginnings by Cree Storm and Maggie Walsh is first in their Kaliss series. While it is obvious this is a continuation to Ezra and Jewel’s journey to happily ever after, I was able to catch on pretty quickly.I enjoyed meeting Jewel and Ezra. I enjoyed seeing them learn that love alone isn’t enough. While I don’t know the troubles Ezra and Jewel faced to get to this point, Ms. Storm and Ms. Walsh made it clear that trust and communication were what was currently lacking in their relationship. Jewel is unsure about most things and doesn’t trust in his mating. He is waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. And while he is waiting, he hides much of himself from his mate. Ezra is a bit overwhelmed with his new position and isn’t managing it very well. I love that Ms. Storm and Ms. Walsh found a believable way for Ezra that Jewel to talk. Talk about their needs and desires. Talk about how they want their life together to unfold. Just talk in general. I enjoyed this story and want to see more of this world they have created.
