This is the first book of Haven Ranch Sovereignty Island. It is recommended to read book 1-3 of the Haven Ranch series first.

Dudley was a rarity in the shifter world. A human turned into a shifter, and not just any shifter, a Bashkiria. Two animals in one, dolphin and flamingo, and fear was his middle name. Heights, dark water, spiders, snakes──heck, you name it, Dudley feared it. However, he was not going to let that stop him from living and enjoying life. With his pink pony tail, manicured nails, and come hither outfits, Dudley was ready for anything──or so he thought.

Alexander is the head of the King’s Guard. He loved being an electric eel and vampire, loved being a Bashkiria world. He preferred to blend in and go unnoticed, and he faced any danger head on. That's why, when he met Dudley, he thought Fate had lost her mind. How could this man, afraid of his own shadow, flamboyant, and "take note I am in the room" attitude, be the one for him? Alex sure hoped the term "Opposites Attract" is true, because as a shifter, Alex had to trust in the choice the Gods made for him. So Dudley can run, he can hide, but Alex will get his man──or will he?

Excerpt:

"Udley! Udley! You heaw!" Georgy yelled as he rushed to Dudley and jumped.

Dudley would have fallen on his ass had it not been for a strong presence behind him, blocking his fall. "Yes I am young man. Finally, you can show me your home."

Turning, Dudley about swallowed his tongue. A true God was standing behind him looking as shell shocked as Dudley was. The man was a few inches taller than his own five foot six inches, he had beautiful short, slicked back black hair that looked thick enough to grab onto and never let go──his hair accentuated his odd but magnificent eye colors. Yes, Dudley saw colors. The left eye was yellow, the right silver. "Amazing."

"Yes, you are." The man said in a deep sexy baritone.

Feeling his cheeks heat, Dudley's voice was barely audible, "I meant your eyes. They remind me of Firion's."

"I meant you. I'm Alexander, the Master Guard for Kind Edmond."

Dudley giggled. The movement had his pink ponytail bouncing on his head."Now you sound like Sax. So prim and proper. I'm──"

Sky raced over and grabbed Dudley, pulling him away, "We have to go get ready, Dudley. The Wedding is not going to wait and we have a lot to do."

"You're Dudley?" Alexander shouted so loud everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at him.

The playfulness that had been in the handsome man's eyes was gone and replaced with annoyance.

Backing up, Dudley stammered, "Y──Yes. Is th──that a pro──problem?"

Cortez walked over, hissing, '"Is there a problem here?"

Alex didn't stop looking in his direction. His voice dropping low and gravely, "No. No problem at all. Dudley is just not what I expected."

"Oh and what did you expect?" Cortez asked with a sneer.

Dudley patted Cortez's arm, "It's okay, Cortez. Leave the man be. If I'm not mistaken, this is the person you said was ready to kill me because of my constant changes. He has a right to be upset with me. Even you felt I went a bit overboard."

"Maybe so, but all you were doing was trying to make Sky's day perfect. You will not be mistreated for doing what I asked you to do for our friends." Cortez snapped.

Dudley gave a soft smile to Cortez, "But Xander hasn't mistreated me, Cortez. He is just saying I'm not what he expected. Now, I don't know what that means and neither do you."

Cortez puckered his lips then licked his teeth, "Fine. How about we find out what Alexander was talking about then?"

Alexander looked Cortez straight in the eye, not even blinking, "You might be king of the Highlands, as well as King Edmond's brother, but you are not my king nor are you my brother. Therefore, with all due respect. I do not answer to you."

Cortez took a menacing step forward, "Alexander, you and I may not always see eye to eye on matters, but I have always respected your position in regards to protecting my brother. What you need to understand is that Dudley and I are veryclose and I will not tolerate anyone disrespecting him either."

"Why is UntleCort mad at Alex? UntleCort and Alex should not be ighting. Bad boys. Daddy is gonna make you stay in rooms." Georgy said with a shake of his finger.

Dudley scuffed up Georgy's hair, saying, "No one is going to fight, Georgy, because fighting is wrong. Why don't you go and help Winter with the bags?"
"K. I put yours in my room. Daddy said I could." Georgy said with a hopeful smile.

Shaking his head, Dudley replied, "I have a better idea. Let's put everything in Cortez's room and that way we can have a pajama party with the three of us."

"Yeah!" Georgy shouted, doing a fist pump and took off towards Winter, yelling, "Winner! Winner! Guess what!"

Whatever else was said was lost when Dudley heard a sharp indrawn breath. Turning back around, Dudley was facing a very angry Alexander. The man's eyes were hardened and his chin raised, "You two share a room?"

Dudley crinkled his brows in confusion, "Well, yes. We have done so for centuries."

Pursing his lips, Alexander growled, "I see."

Sky had been uncharacteristically silent, but that was about to end. "I am thinking I know what the problem is here, and Alex, I suggest you open your mouth and spit it out. However, let it be known, if any of the three of you do anything to ruin my wedding, I will rip your balls off and feed them to Winter."

I liked this book. I really liked Dudley. I know he was a bit over the top, but I like those types of characters. I really like it when a MC is over the top and okay with it. Alex was a bit harder for me to like. I did think that he made a good mate for Dudley. It seems to be a pretty good formula to have a straight-laced character mated to an over the top one. I am definitely looking forward to the next one in the series. I read this as a stand-alone and while I probably could have benefited from reading the Haven series first, it didn't detract from my enjoyment. I'm really glad a friend lent me her copy as this is a good start to a new series.

And it was an exciting journey, so glad to get Dudley's story and Alex finally got the stick out of his ummm backside! I mean who can resist a happy, bouncy man with pink hair and a pony tail??? Dudley is awesome!
The most important part for me was the communication....mates are all well and good but you have to have more then the sexy scenes to truly connect! So glad we got more but I gotta say, how long you gonna leave me waiting for the next book? Yeah I know, just came out and already I want more, sorry! What you get for hooking me on these guys!!!

About the Author

I was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky. I’m a military brat that travelled a bit overseas and throughout many parts of the United States. I finally settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where I eventually got married and then divorced. I was blessed with two fantastic sons. As they grew up and became young men chasing their dreams. I felt that maybe now was the time for me to do the same. That’s when I started writing. Never in a million years did I expect to meet the most wonderful man in the world, move to Quebec, Canada, and get married. However, that is exactly what happened. JP has introduced me to things like; canoeing, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and has taken me to some of the most beautiful locations. Ones that I had only ever seen on a computer or read about in books. I may miss my mountains and my boys, but have discovered that when you work towards your dreams, the future can be one filled with happiness and love. My boys are only a plane ride away, and Skype is a glorious thing. So I say, on to my next adventure…don’t be shocked to find it in one of my books.
