Shawn Bell doesn’t have a clue how his life has spiraled so far out of control. Going from fun college student to having a wolf shifter for a mate, changes his life forever. He put himself in the middle of a war between vampires and shifters. It wouldn’t be so bad if he had a mate that wanted him.
Gabriel Somerset wants a mate about as much as he wants to investigate a vampire coven for his alpha, which is not at all. He makes his feelings very clear to Shawn, expecting his human mate to accept the fact that they’ll never bond with each other. One thing Gabriel learns about Shawn is that he isn’t the accepting type.

“Are you hurt?” Shawn asked after it was apparent Gabriel wasn’t going to respond first. Shawn raised a hand in a silent hello to Angel, who sat in the driver’s seat watching them.
Gabriel’s eyebrows drew together, and he gave Shawn a look as if he lost his mind. “No.”
“Do you know how long you’ve been gone?”
Gabriel picked up his phone and pressed a button. The screen came on with the time in big white numbers. He looked away from his phone and back at Shawn again. “Yes.”
“You said you wouldn’t be gone all day. I got worried sick, Gabriel.”
READ MOREFinally, he undid his seatbelt and let it slide across his chest and left arm, freeing him from the confines. “I was stuck in a closet. Literally, not figuratively.”
Shawn took a step back, giving Gabriel enough room to get out of the truck. “I just told you how worried I was, and you make jokes.”
“I’m here to do a job, Shawn. That has to come first.” Gabriel sniffed the air around him, and his eyes changed.
“I hate feeling like I’m constantly in your way. You win. You don’t want me around, then fine. I’m out of here.” Shawn turned and started walking into the house again.
Shawn had been in the way of someone his whole life. He wouldn’t do it again.
He’d already thought of a plan if Gabriel and Angel kicked him out, which he knew they’d do eventually.
He’d walk to town and hitchhike his way west. He’d get as far away from Nicolono’s coven as possible. Okay, so as plans went the one he had pretty much sucked, but it could work if he didn’t get into the wrong cars. Bring on the nice middle-aged women that had a mother’s instinct and didn’t want to see him get hurt.
Shawn sighed and felt that ache in his chest regenerate at the thought of being away from Gabriel. Shawn turned away, starting back into the house. “I’ll be out first thing in the morning.”
He let out a little scream when he heard Gabriel growl and felt an arm come around his waist. “You will not leave me,” Gabriel whispered against his ear. And Shawn gasped at the sensation. He closed his eyes and let himself feel Gabriel’s body as it pressed against his own. He wanted to surrender to him. He’d give in if he could just feel all that body heat and those hard muscles against him for the rest of his life, but Gabriel would pull away. He’d come to his senses eventually.
