The guard was quick and professional; he was already pulling his pistol from its holster when Apocrypha hit him with the taser. The gun was thrown from his grasp as he fell to the ground, and she hit him a couple more times with the taser until he was unconscious.
“Shouldn’t you have done some sort of super karate move and knocked him out soundlessly?” Kitsune’s voice came through Apocrypha’s earpiece.
“Not on the menu tonight.” Apocrypha slipped over to the door and looked around. “Are you in yet?”
“You know people hate it when you ask that question. There was this guy I used to see. He was the accountant for the Don, and when I had to ask that question, he would take it very personally.”
“Kit-sun-ee, are you in yet?”
“Almost there. You know this is not as easy as you think it is. I mean, if you want to, we can switch positions. I can go in the side door while you hang outside the windows on the twenty-eighth floor.”
READ MORE“You volunteered for that, not that I understand why you’re there. Most hackers I know sit in a room thirty miles away and just click a mouse.”
“Would not have worked. Thanatos has all the security protocols on a closed network with no outside access. The good news for us is that the executives on the upper floors still want their Wi-Fi connectivity. So, if you get close enough to the windows, it’s like you’re in the office. Plus, I can look at people’s desks and see who has their password stuck on their desk with sticky notes. This makes the hack the easy part of the night. There!”
There was a loud click as the door in front of Apocrypha unlocked.
