Starting Over

The Knights Club Series

by C.J. Baty

Xavier Knight was starting his life over. A new city. A new club. The past was gone, and he had everything to look forward to… except… love. That ship had sailed, never to return. He was too old to play the games or stack up the one night stands. Until, an old enemy’s son walked into his club and his heart.

Sebastian Brady was through. Through with hiding who he was. Through letting his brother officers dictate his life. And completely through, with his family telling him who he was. He turned his back on his badge and his family’s heritage in the Atlanta police force. But, he never imagined that he’d be serving drinks in a gay bar and working for the hottest silver fox he had ever seen in his life.

Xavier and Seb have a lot to learn from each other. Hopefully, their growing love will survive Xavier’s past, Seb’s family, and a host of characters with secrets of their own, who all work at the Knights Club.

“We’ve narrowed the field of suspects down to two. Both employees. We’ve also noted a known prostitute meeting a client here. I’m warning you, if he’s caught exchanging money in here, I’ll close this place down quicker than you can shit.”

“What the hell,” Xavier exclaimed. “You are casing my place?”

Xavier lunged, but Seb pulled him back.

“Xavier. No!”

“Ah, I’m not that stupid, but I sure as hell want to,” Xavier felt blood rushing through his body at the smug smile on Zach’s face.

“Just police procedure, boys.” Zach said as he walked away.

After the club closed for the night, Xavier double checked the locks before he set the alarm. He found Seb in his office stretched out on the sofa, arms behind his head, staring at the ceiling.

“Why won’t he just leave me the fuck alone? Write me off for being a faggot and get on with his life?” He asked when Xavier had settled in the chair behind his desk.

“I don’t know,” Xavier answered, then added. “Maybe he really does care. Maybe he really believes he is doing the right thing.” Seb glanced at Xavier. Eyebrows arched.

“You must be as crazy as he is. He doesn’t care about me. It’s all about him. All about his reputation. He doesn’t want me to be out for the same reason my dad didn’t. How would it look for other cops to know he had a faggot for a son or a brother?”

Xavier let Seb carry on and when he got quiet he asked him a question.

“Are you really happy working and living here?” Xavier needed to know if it was true.

Seb sat up, crossed to Xavier’s desk, and sat on the edge.

“I meant every word I told Zach. I’ve never been happier. This place is the home I never had. No pretending or hiding away from disapproving eyes, nobody to prove anything to.”

Seb reached out and stroked Xavier’s cheek with his fingertips.

Leaning still closer, he kissed Xavier sweetly.

“I don’t know what this is between us, but I’m willing to stick around long enough to see where it goes,” Seb said. “What about you?”

Xavier thought it over and realized he’d been thinking about it for days now. He wanted to find out, too, good or bad. No one had made him feel this way in a long time.

“Stay with me tonight,” Seb whispered against Xavier’s lips.

“Only if I get to taste you this time,” Xavier smiled.

Seb’s face flushed and his eyes sparkled. “That can be arranged.”
