Prologue
All I hear are the screams. Bloodcurdling, terror filled screams. Nothing else cuts through the darkness. Nothing else touches my soul. I can’t recall how this happened now that the animal in me has fully taken over. There’s nothing left of me here. Only darkness, and rage. Pure unadulterated fury. It’s an endless cycle. If rage were a color I think it would be red. That’s all I see now. Red. I’ve tried to fight back. To take back control. Only to fail in the end. It’s too strong to fight now and I’m slowly getting weaker. Pretty soon I’ll disappear completely and only the animal in me shall remain.
READ MOREMy only solace is the hope that someone will put me out of my misery. While I don’t feel like I’ve harmed anyone yet it’s only a matter of time before I do. The knowledge that I’d caused an innocent being harm would kill me if I were to wake up from this nightmare. My current reality, I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. To be trapped inside your animal self, unable to get free, and rage being the only thing to fuel you. It’s hell. I’d give anything to be able to walk on two legs again. Anything.
Chapter One
Law
Being a bounty hunter for the Paranormal Council isn’t an easy job but it’s not a hard one either. The process itself is pretty cut and dry. Track the bad guy, capture the bad guy, and collect the reward. It’s like a game of cat and mouse. Some of these guys make capturing them way too easy which cheats me out of the rush I get from the chase. Sharing my spirit with a Bengal tiger can do that. The thrill of the hunt is part of the reason why I took this job. The other part is because I owed it to the council to do something for them.
They raised me after my entire family was wiped out by rogues. Truth be told, I was trained to be one of their fixers but my tiger half wasn’t satisfied with the process. He prefers the chase and being a fixer wasn’t conducive to that environment. You can’t get a good chase from someone when all you’re supposed to do is find them and eliminate them as discreetly as possible. Honestly, I prefer it this way. Bounty hunting for the council gives me a lot more leeway and freedom than I would have being a fixer. I’d rather not have my supervisors breathing down my neck to get the job done. Or worse, biting my head off every time I did something stupid.
The only contact I have with the council now is when they assign me a mark and I deliver them. Other than that they tend to leave me alone. My reward money is transferred straight into my bank account and then I move on to the next target. Unless I decide I need a vacation and go off the grid for a while. I’ve been known to do that a time or two. It’s easier that way. Means I don’t run the risk of being called in to pursue a bounty before my vacation is even finished. I seriously hate when that happens. It’s why I started going off grid during vacation. Complete and utter solitude just the way I like it.vvv
COLLAPSEDenise on Amazon wrote:I love this series. While this book was the last of the 4 brothers of the Asphalt Bay Pack I am hoping it is not the last book in the series. Well written with well developed characters. I am hoping that maybe we will be lucky enough for more members of the band Dead Tuesday might find their mates. I will keep looking for more books.
This is the first book I've read by this author and boy was it good. Law and Caleb are awesome characters. I was concerned and worried about Law. Caleb surprised me. I wasn't expecting him to be the total badass that he was. Man you don't want to mess with what he cares about and definitely don't mess with his mate. I was given the privilege and opportunity to receive an advanced reader copy and I'm leaving an honest review. After having read this one, I'm not only going to read the three before it, but I'm also going to check out her other series. Looks like I've found a new favorite and Ezra Dawn gained a new fan.
