Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat 4
by
Another spring, another trip to Pennsylvania for the regional Alpha gathering. After the tragedy at the last gathering, Alpha Tobias Rogan can only hope that this event will go smoothly. Especially since his mate Kyle Slidell refuses to stay behind in Boston.
At the gathering, Tobias’s hopes are dashed when a visiting stranger challenges the Arkhon of the Northeast Region to a fight for rank—and wins. But the challenger wasn’t acting of his own free will. There’s a larger plan in play, and Tobias knows who’s behind it.
To protect his region, with his mate by his side, Tobias will do whatever it takes. So much for things going smoothly.
This book includes conflict between mates and reference to a past physical fight between those mates; mention of off-page murder, abduction, and child abduction; violence between werewolves; references to past abuse and sexual assault; and depictions of PTSD.

At times, the downside of shacking up with my mate was way too obvious. Times such as now, when Kyle glared at me so hard from his spot against the kitchen counter that his gaze felt like laser beams. In the days before I’d finally talked him into moving in with me, I would have gone back to my own apartment or sent him back to his. Now, though, we were stuck.
“I hate arguing with you,” I said. “I’m the pack Alpha. You should obey me because of that.” And because of the compulsion power that was part of an Alpha’s magic. The problem was compulsion didn’t work on my stubborn lover. He didn’t have to do a damn thing I said, and I only required him to when other pack members were present. Fortunately, he agreed to that condition.
“No one else is here,” he said. “I’ll always respect you in front of the others, but right now, you’re being an ass.”
READ MORESitting at my kitchen table in front of the computer set-up that should have had its own desk but didn’t because the damn apartment wasn’t big enough, I clenched one fist and relaxed it immediately. I understood why Kyle was pissed off, but I’d had enough of his attitude. I wished I’d kept my mouth shut until I was willing to deal with this.
Which, to be honest, would have been never.
“I’m not staying behind.” It was the third time Kyle had said it, or maybe the fourth, and it didn’t do any more toward changing my mind than it had the first time. “Tobias, you’ll need me there. You know you will. Look at what happened last time.”
Fury rushed through me and I tensed before forcing myself to relax. I refused to lose my temper. As a kid, before I was changed and even more afterward, I lost my temper far too easily. I hurt people. I even killed someone when I was fifteen, completely premeditated. Then again, that was the guy who’d changed me, and he’d attacked other boys who were even younger than me, so he had it coming.
But I didn’t like myself when I ran on anger, so I’d learned control. Sometimes too much, according to Kyle, but it beat the alternative.
“You’re not impressing me,” I said, my voice deliberately calm and even. Kyle could sense how angry I was through our mate bond, but that didn’t mean I had to show it. “You shouldn’t have brought up the last conference. If you think that’s going to make me cave, think again.”
Back in September, two people had died in Pennsylvania at the regional alpha conference: Chal Torres, the Alpha of our neighbor City Pack and one of my closest friends, and Katrine Mrowka, a damaged wolf I’d found wandering lost and had brought into my pack. They were killed by a human, but he was hired by a rogue alpha named Saul Hughes, whose goal had been to kill Chal and me and take over our combined packs.
During the attack, I was hit by a silver bullet, but thanks to Suzannah Daigle, my pack’s healer, I’d survived. Unfortunately, so had the memories.
